Proposal to Remove ATC Function from FAA

This has come up before in varying forms. Might be privatized, or might be funded by user fees, both of which are common practice overseas.

Opposition tends to align on special interests grounds, not specifically functionality concerns. AOPA and NBAA are concerned they'd have to pay for ATC services on a per-transaction basis, which is obviously more affordable for airlines. Civil service unions obviously don't want to become private sector workers.

user fees is a bad idea. It's just another tax. ATC is along the lines of police, fire, military IMHO and should remain a Govt function.... but I'd be fine with it being separate from the FAA.

I think black rock should run it. They can hire the cheapest people and min staff atlanta center ……….Totally safe

what a joke. I bet you get a midair or a vector into terrain within the 1st 3 years

Privatization of ATC??? Hmmm. New opportunities for attorneys for, let's say, traffic management resulting in a go-around, rejected takeoffs, runway incursion, near misses. What could go wrong?

Took less than 10 years in Europe before they had a major midair collision caused by lack of staffing by a privatized ATC contractor.

DHL611 and BTC2937 over Germany in 2002. Yes, there were other factors, but this would not have happened if they were properly staffed.

Most of the world's ATC is privately run with a separate government regulator.

Why does every single function in America HAVE to make someone money?

Because it’s usually cheaper to do so.

Probably the same reason every facet of the government has to be reckless with how they spend our money.
