I just fired off the AirlineApps.com package as well. When you view the "Compare My App" page for Spirit, it lists the total time requirement as 5000 hours. I assume that is an error... or else I hope thier military conversion factor is 10 hours per sortie.

Hopefully you are right. Because of the growth, I can see why they want experimented pilots who can become captain within 3-4 years. especially with the 20 A320 in addition to the remaining 25 A319 to be delivered (source: airbus.com) and the 15 new destinations announced a week or so ago. But 5000 seems a little high considering the fact that by the end of the year all the legacy carriers (except AA and US air) should have resumed hiring. |
US Air has already started hiring...they have West poolies from 2 years back in class now, or will have them in class very soon. I think mostly on the 190...

We have a few ex. TWA/AA guys...and I think they will go when they are called; That is alright, they are senior to me:)
I had heard that they are being a little more "picky" because of the amount of problems some where having with the init. bus school. Maybe they are thinking that more TT will help????? doubt it. Personally, it should be the "type" of time over TT. I do believe that they are hiring "Capts." so as to when it is time to upgrade they will be ready. Some of our Wizz Kids look as though they have to be dropped off at the airport by their parents...geesh they look young! |
5000 for spirit is a joke. Many airlines pay WAY more money and have much lower mins.

Such as...? |
Hi!
The FAA said that by 2011 the pax numbers will be up by 26%. The number of ATP pilots will be flat. The number of commercial pilots will decline. But there's not a shortage-oh no. cliff YIP |
"Such as...?"
Such as money wise??? SWA, CAL, DAL, AS,AirTran, B6(A320), FDX, UPS...you can even throw in UA in there prob. The mins will come down. 5000 to fly 319 (and make 40, 52, 56, sure once in a while you might be able to get the 321 rates $5-7/hr more WOW) as a FO is really a JOKE. A regional CA with that sort of time will be taking a pay cut for a while. Therefore you guys will not be getting quality pilots, and the mins will come down. Don’t take offence Short Bus, just stating the obvious |
threegreen... I am a newbie at Spirit. I will make $5,000.00 this month...not including per diem. I had 15 days off this month as well. sometimes the $$ amount posted on the pay scales in not the whole story. Spirit has pretty good work rules all things considered. Spirit also has to potential for a very fast upgrade. Most of the Airlines you mentioned would have you spending far more time in the Right seat than would spirit.
|
More than anything they are going to miss out on some quality pilots who will move to Delta, CAL, UAL, NWA, Airtran, etc., instead of waiting until they have 5000 hours. If you are in the left seat of an RJ, it doesn't matter if you have 3500 hours or 10,000 hours. You can either learn a new aircraft or not. Once you are an RJ Captain for a year or two, more time is not going to make you more apt to pass initial training in an Airbus.
|
I think this might be a mistake. I just spoke to D.C. in the hiring department and she told me that the "unofficial" mins were 4000TT/1000PIC. BTW I just finished initial myself and everyone in the class had at least 1000TPIC.

Don’t take offence Short Bus, just stating the obvious I am not taking "offence" (are you British?). I was just asking about "WAY more" money? I don't think so. Maybe SWA,DAL. NOT CAL, B6, or even UAL,NWA.(first year) The pay rates on the Airline Central are misleading BTW way. We DO NOT get MORE money for the 321. We were supposed to, but that's another story. We have a "blended" rate now. So the rates are a "LITTLE" (emphasis on LITTLE) higher than what is shown. Also, as previously stated, QOL is real good here. (for now) Contract is in negotiations, and we are "Standing up to the MAN-agement." I think they raised the mins because we were getting some crappy FOs from the regionals. The kind that didn't "pay dues"; Gulfstream, "zero to hero" types. And they came in with such attitude. Again, another story. And I do agree, it is not the TOTAL time itself. QUALITY of time is it. I think we should lean towards a SWA like interview. Get to know the type of person. BTW, I heard a FTD type of check is now, or going to be, used to make sure you can actually fly an airplane.!!! |
I personally think the LOI concept that SWA and FDX use is a wonderful tool...not very time consuming, and cost very little. It would be easy to see with an LOI (Line Oriented Interview) who the idiots are and who the real pilots are.
|
"I am not taking "offence" (are you British?)."
No, but i am european. All the info on pay scales i got was on ACP, if there is more info that i missed then its my fault. Good luck with your contract neog. |

They must have missed the section on the app where it clearly asks, "How old and haggard do you appear to be?" |

That is for the PAX's and FA's....... |
I heard from some of the pilots who atteneded the latest ALPA meeting that B.B. stated next years captain upgrades have not been hired yet... I think that explains the 5K TT. PS... I saw Aruba and Ponce have been added... Both nice places...

Not so nice that FLL is now the only base:(

Maybe they want 5000TT and a lot of PIC because they knew that the DTW pilot group will be leaving and upgrades will come quick:)
