They go away when you don't engage. My bigger issue is when some poor schmuck has an actual problem and is broadcasting on Guard, invariably there's some hero pointing out that they're on Guard.

Yes that happened to me once, trying to relay from an (obviously scared) GA pilot with engine trouble and people kept interrupting to school us about guard use. Of course I don't know which airline they were from, might even have been taxi drivers in TJ. But I have my suspicions.

Other big issues isn't so much the meows themselves, it's the fact a lot of folks just turn off guard so they don't have to listen to it. At least it's not as bad in the west.

Have heard that as well.

I have been disappointed with the controllers not calling out the ones that screw up after a meow and then read back a freq change or shortcut with their callsign on guard after said meow......

You all are idiots.

THIS! The only time I have been in a cockpit where someone thought guard antics were funny was 135.

captjns 04-17-2026 02:19 AM

Wasn’t this movie made with updated remakes for some 20 years ago?

It's amazing how the "keep it professional" crowd (the ones who aren't themselves trolling back) allow themselves to be baited time and again and never realize it. Some people love to smell their own gas, I guess.

Also, to whom it may concern:

When there's a legitimate safety reason (like someone calling midfield downwind on Guard), please address the caller in some specific way, not just with "you're on guard!".

The guy talking on the wrong frequency is not aware he's on the wrong frequency, you have to grab his/her attention with something specific.

(This should be common sense, but what do I know).

The other day on guard we heard the following from a Pt. 135 aircraft:

"(Insert FBO name here), (call sign) in range. Need five thousand pounds Jet A positive...and like, uh, a hazmat cleaning team. We have a two year old passenger who pooped all over the cabin. Like everywhere."

And we airline guys think *we* have anything to complain about 😅

I honestly think a lot of these 135 in range calls are just frequency bleed over. I know that isn't your point but then the guard dogs try to correct them and they probably can't hear them.

They're pretty 5 by 5 for bleed-over. Unless those guys just have bad radios?

At least they have a hazmat team to call... as opposed to some rubber gloves, a bucket and sponge borrowed from the line dude.

I usually don’t watch him, but I just saw the video from Captain Steeeeeve on the meow topic and he had a lot of condescending things to say like “I guarantee you this is the young First Officers doing this” and “I need my Captains out there to put a stop to this”.

Is this guy the self appointed Chief Pilot for everyone? “I need my Captains…” What a db…

Maybe that's why he wanted to stay past 65... mentoring.

I blocked his account. Also blocked that GaryB dude just because he keeps doing joint podcasts with steeeeve.

I wonder if Steeeeeeeeve is friends with DAL’s “Captain Happy”?

You think it's the 45+, 50+, 55+ or 60+ club that's meowing on Guard?

Captain talking about an FO meowing on Guard. 'WTF just happened' moment for the Captain. Said the FO was surprised that he called him out on it. He was stunned the FO thought it was okay.

Steve needs to just be quiet and go away. He’s a bafoon . Him,Captain Kenny Card at big D , and a few more out there. Just making the profession look bad for their own self interest.

I don’t know who is doing it, but that’s not the point. The point is we don’t need Capt SteeeeeeeeEEeeeve , who is over 65 and retired now, telling “his Captains” how to handle it and calling First Officers “Son” and “kid”. Sorry bud, you’re retired, time to go fishing or play golf…not putting on a fake uniform every day and then critiquing everything on the internet.

We also don’t need to see Kenny wearing a schmedium and flexing his muscles, and putting a plastic bag around his muffin top so his hat can be “squared away” without any lint on it. (As he puts it)

These people are cringe-worthy at best and are not doing any favors for our profession.

at6d 04-26-2026 10:57 PM

We’ve got some “cringe” interwebbers at WN as well.
