Delta PIC question
Sorry if this was in an earlier thread...believe me I've been searching and I've been all over the Airinc "Logging PIC articles" for us mil types -
My question(s) - when filling out the airapps application for Delta - 1) Does Delta include in their total time your copilot "other" time? (sitting the jump seat for example) 2) Does Delta include in their total time your sim time? 3) Does Delta classify PIC as "primary" time or are they strictly looking at PIC = A code. Thanks for your help!! |

Thanks for your help!! 1. Do not include any "Other" time or for Navy "SCT" (Special crew time) in any of your numbers 2. They have a separate section on the airline apps for your sim time, however I didn't bother to put in any of my sim time 3. They want the time that you were the Aircraft Cmdr of record, you signed for the aircraft, for the Navy that's an easy breakout as we record the A time directly as such in our logbooks - I know the Air Force does it differently. Ultimately you need to be able to justify your numbers/formula in the interview. Better to err a little more conservative than to over-report. -SS |
Thanks Split S!

Split,
I'm interviewing late Aug and have the same question about the "other" time. I didn't figure it into my PIC or SIC, but I did list it under the dual time so my 260 hours of "relief pilot" time would still count under total flight hours. Does this pass the logic test or did they specifically mention not to log it since it doesn't say on airapps? Thanks... |
"Other" time never, ever counts for anything in the civilian world.

Granted it doesn't...but I am counting the entire 5.0 of a sortie where I was the A code as 5.0 PIC (even though we split that 5.0 into 1.3 primary, 1.3 secondary, and 1.4 other time for all concerned between me and the other two pilots)

I'd be careful using any other time as PIC. Most airlines will look at your 5.0 as 2.6 of PIC time and 1.4 of nappy time. During my SWA interview, I had to justify every flight hour on my app, and they wanted nothing to do with other time.

I just went through this process. Being an ex Navy E-6 guy I had lots of flights where there was 10h pic, 3h first pilot, 3h second pilot, 4 h special crew. I logged all 10 hrs as pic. Obviously, I signed for the jet. I believe that the system will count all pic as total time so you pretty much are covered. The first pilot I counted was only for time that I was NOT the pic. That way time was not counted twice. Second pilot time was lumped into this also and all logged as copilot time. Again all time was for flights that I was not the aircraft commander. Thus: All time as AC logged as AC All time not as AC I added first pilot and second pilot and logged as Copilot. This way my hours on the website were equal to the hours in my navy logbook with the exception that the navy logbook does not count time spent as Special Crew but while the Aircraft Commander. I created a simple spreadsheet describing my thought process and why I logged things the way I did. The web site is difficult to translate for mil heavy guys who spend special crew as the AC signing for the jet. There were no issues at my interview and the logbook guy was very happy with my paperwork. I hope this helps. Slinky |
Makes sense Slinky...thanks for the info.

I'm a C-17 driver that just interviewed in July and got a job offer. I think Slinky is 100% correct with his guidance. If you signed for the jet, then I think it is completely legitimate to take credit for the entire time (other time included). I don't think this is a logical stretch or even something that will be addressed in the HR portion of the interview. Even though you're in the bunk, you're still completely resonsible for anything that happens or fails to happen....PERIOD. I wouldn't, however, count any other time prior to your MP/IP/EP designation.
Best of luck!! |
