Cathay Pacific Second Officer Position

I'm a low time Commercial Pilot, however was possibly looking at the Cathay Pacific Second Officer Position. Does anyone know any details of this program or knows anyone that is in it? If anyone knows, is the FAA Commercial Pilots License the same as an ICAO Commercial Pilots License? And do you just need to pass the ATP written for that program to fulfill their requirements? Any insight...would greatly appreciate it.

Hello,

I interviewed with Cathay last year, and there were several SO interviewees in attendance with the DE FO's. I must say that all of them had well over 3000 hours total time. If you really are low time ie. below 3000 tt, I am sorry to say your chances are quite low. To answer your question regarding the FAA ATP written, I believe it does meet their requirement, but the best way to find out is to call up Recruitment and ask. They are quite friendly over there in HK.

Best of luck.

The HKCAD does accept the FAA Comm and ATP for conversion. I am an FAA ATP holder and I am awaiting a course date with CX for a direct entry FO position based in the US. You will have to take a number of written tests when you go to HK for training.

If you are interested in Cathay Pacific as a SO, I would suggest applying now and then updating every 6 months. The first question I was asked in my first interview was "I see that you applied to CX in Dec 2004, why not sooner?". I think that they like to see persitance (sp?) and that you demonstrate that you really want to join Cathay.

If you are serious about Cathay I suggest you go to the PPrune website www.pprune.org and look under the Fragrant Harbour forum. There are a lot of details on how to get hired. As someone who has gone through an Asian interview process I will tell you that you need to be thorough and sharp. You must demonstrate a level of proficiency that exceeds what they can get from their local pilots (else they wouldn't need you).

Cathay used to be the best airline job in the world, but getting in without an RAF background was very difficult. It's no longer that way, both the job and the background. You will be a very small voice on that flightdeck and the Captain will be a very large voice. Good luck to you if you get on.
