Air Inc Job Fair in Sep.

So I'm gonna go to my first job fair at DCA. Looking at the schdule, the face-to-face with recruiters is only 5 hours on Sat., out of the whole 3 day event. Is it taboo to just show up for the recruiters and skip the workshops and seminars?

No. I did that at the one in May, and I wasn't the only one.

I would even skip the morning market session on Saturday unless you want to listen to Kit spew some very boring stuff. I've went to a few AirInc fairs and I usually show up just before lunch, grab something to eat, meet the recruiters, then bolt. The recruiters have no idea nor would they care how much of the fair you attend.

I always found his seminars bordered on robbery. The guy is a genuine $$$$ grubber and will sugar coat everything to get that last penny from you. When I went to his seminars, they were like attending the first day of groundschool for a private license. ie "This instrument is called an altimeter". "Does anyone here in the audience know what an altimeter is for?" "These levers are called throttles, and are used for power applications", etc...... Totally bogus stuff unless you're in your first 40 hours of flying. When you'd call his "interview help line", they'd get your credit card number, charge you and then play the "have you read everything about the company yet?" "After you've read everything you can, then give us a call and we'll go from there". "You have 45 minutes left of your interview help time remaining". If you asked them about the interview process of a certain airline, they'd play "dumb" and say they didn't have that info. Totally bogus in my opinion. After subscribing for one year, I realized that it was a moneymaking machine for Kit. The seminars usually ended with a few recruiters showing up, but many of the major players never seemed to quite make it for some reason or another. Lot of commuter reps and freight reps (one or two aircraft companies looking for one or two pilots), but the bigboys seemed to be on to his schtick. Maybe others have had better luck. I'd bypass the seminars unless you feel you really need it and just attend the recruiting session. Bring plenty of resumes, DRESS SHARP, and be on your best behavior. JMHO Good luck in your endeavors.

I went to the Fair in Atlanta back in May. I had my app in with DAL for a little over a month at that time. I waited in the DAL line for 1+40 to have the opportunity to hand my resume to someone who mattered and sell myself...all in 10 min. Got the email to interview 2 days later. I'd go for Sat only and I wouldn't go to the stuff in the am. The only reason you're going is to sell yourself to whomever you wish to work for. After lunch, 1200-1600ish, all the airlines talk about their operations. Again, you could care less. The real reason you're going to this thing starts at 1600. Check to make sure you're airline of choice is going to be present, otherwise it's a waste of time IMHO. Delta, Continental and SWA were the only majors in attendance, as well as UPS.
