Confusion on SWA Liveries
Well, im confused, is there a main livery???? i always thought the "Old" Tan was the main livery, but now all the -700's have Canyon Blue, and it seems all the -300's and 500's have "Old" Tan, is there a main livery???? And are SWA moving slowly to another livery?

My guess is that there are about 50 -700's in old colors and about 20-30 -300's in old colors. Canyon Blue scheme was introduced in Jan '01. Check out the link below. Hope this helps.

Why did SWA pick the early paint scheme - I believe that other than the red and orange stripe it was primer - was this to save weight, cost or both? As a follow up - if there was a valid reason for having the early paint scheme (weight, cost) - why did they start the Canyon Blue?

Advertising man. Name recognition. Like the unpainted aluminum of AA or, in this case, that orange and brown, one of the cheaper ways to advertise is to paint the planes. Having something original that will stick in a customers mind means they'll give you a look before they remember the other airlines. If they like the price and service you've got a customer.
