Jet Blue Bases for New Hires

What's the seniority on bases for new hires? I'd be wanting to try for LGB, so I'm curious about how the seniority is. Thanks.

I don't have the specific seniority numbers with me, but almost 98% of newhires goes to JFK. It is possible for a newhire to get BOS and FLL, but LGB is way too senior. Most FOs have to wait 6 to 18 months to get LGB. It is a very senior base and not much movement in both Captain and FO positions.

There is no growth at LGB due to the airport's slot limits, so the only opening are due to FO upgrading to CA (going to JFK) or junior CA bidding back to JFK to get a line vs sitting on reserves at LGB.

So, if you are a new hire you have about 0% chance of LGB out of training. Plus, LGB is A320 only. IF you are a 190 guy, then it is JFK or BOS. Good luck

Just my opinion......

i would like to add to what fng320 said that a january 3 hire ( first class of 07) can hold LGB fo in the november bid, and there has not been as much attrition, hiring or upgrades since april or so 18 moths is looking more like it now. also reserve at JB is pathetic at best, so unless you drive to LGB is better to have a line in JFK and do the west to east coast commute than to be a reserve in LGB.

You guys been to LGB in the past few weeks?

How do you like that clearance getting into pad 1?

It won't be long before something happens right in that bottleneck.

So, what happens at LGB on reserve? What's the call out? What's the deal?

My 2 pennies... I did the transcon commute for 16 months. It sucked. My body hurt all the time. Nothing like getting on a transcon home right after finishing a redeye. I now drive to reserve at LGB. Pretty good life if you can live with the money. Movement is very slow....an occasional Capt upgrade that leaves for JFK and FOs departing for greener pastures.

Callout is 2 hrs. I have never got the ready alert cold call. My trips have always been assigned the day prior. Also, I usually get long call reserve at the beginning of blocks longer than 3 days.

junior guy transferring next month (Oct) was late a March '07 hire FWIW. don't think its growing any in the immediate future for the 320. folks have to die, quit or upgrade to CA to get in there. options 2 and 3 happen often enough though. if you go at first opportunity you'll be reserve for life, not bad if you live there.
