CAL Questions
I am waiting to hear from CAL and have a few questions for someone that is on the line. Thanks for the responses.
1. How long does it take to hold a block in EWR?
2. Are there two types of reserve? If so a brief explanation would help.
3. How about commuting from the central Florida area? Possible for a
blockholder?
5. Once benefits kick in, are the good? Are they expensive?
6. Is CLE a tough base to get? Can you TDY in other bases?
Again, THANKS!

2. Yes long call which is 9 hour call out, and short call 3 hour call out.
3. Yes it is possible, but tough. The 737 out of EWR is not very commutable but productive (more days off) and the 756 is commutable but not productive(everone below 50% get 12 days off).
4. Yes very good insurance about 200 choices in plans and costs and not to expensive. I pay 240/mo minus an $80 credit because my wife and I don't smoke, for 100% PPO.
5. Yes you can get CLE within a year but only on the 737, and no we have not had TDY's since I have been here, only 1.5 years.
hope that helps.

"A" reserves: on call 24 hours per day (except for release for rest period). Must REPORT for a trip less than 9 hours from first attempt at contact by scheduling. Minimum monthly pay is 72 hours.
"B" reserves: On call during their phone availability period. Must BLOCK OUT on the flight within 3 hours of call by scheduling. (think of it as two hour call and one hour showtime prior to flight OR 2.5 hour call out and .5 hour show time) Minimum pay is 76 hours.

I hear that living in EWR is pretty bad, especially if you have a family. I also hear that Northern PA is pretty good but expensive now because a lot of people live there now and commute to EWR. Any insight to this? I just found out today that I "got the job" and looking to class next month.
