Skyteam and other travel benefits?
My mother was asking me about what travel benefits I'd have if I ever decided to fly for a major and I couldn't answer her question. It made me start thinking about the skyteam and other groups. Do your family travel benefits work not only through your airline but through whatever alliance you are part of as well?

Not true. When I used to work at UA as a ramper, we used to get ID95 on most of the Star Alliance carriers, except SQ and NZ. We could also get ID75 companion tickets on several Star Alliance carriers. These agreements were due to UA's participation in Star Alliance and other airlines did not have these same agreements with said carriers. My friend works for DL and he said they do get some type of better deal with Skyteam members. I am not sure what it is though.

Each Airline has it's own negotiated pass agreements, so it would depend on who you work for. For instance, my parents can travel on CO, DAL, AA and SWA. There are restrictions on time of employment and the number of passes your parents can use in a year.
