Default Skyteam and other travel benefits?

My mother was asking me about what travel benefits I'd have if I ever decided to fly for a major and I couldn't answer her question. It made me start thinking about the skyteam and other groups. Do your family travel benefits work not only through your airline but through whatever alliance you are part of as well?

Your non-rev benefits and the code share, marketing alliances that the company has are not linked in any way.

Not true. When I used to work at UA as a ramper, we used to get ID95 on most of the Star Alliance carriers, except SQ and NZ. We could also get ID75 companion tickets on several Star Alliance carriers. These agreements were due to UA's participation in Star Alliance and other airlines did not have these same agreements with said carriers. My friend works for DL and he said they do get some type of better deal with Skyteam members. I am not sure what it is though.

When you get the ID95/75's are those based on current price or the highest price they can sell the ticket for?

ID 90s are based on the walk up for fare or the Y fare code.

Skyteam and Star Alliance are just marketing tools. Most airlines have inter-airline agreements for employees to purchase discounted tickets. I worked for a now defunct commuter that had no ties to any other airline but we still had the inter-airline agreements. When we started code-sharing with AA the agreement got a little better.

Also I do believe it is ID 90 and not 95

Zed Fares are the way to go. Beat out ID 90's.

Yes, but with only a few on the ZED system, it is very restrictive. I like the idea, but you have to get all airlines to join that program.

I have used ZED fares on airlines around the world, and it has been very easy, regardless of their alliance connections. I always carry a ZED ticket international, it is refundable and is cheap insurance. They can even be swapped on carriers in the same class. I have non-reved on Malev, ANA, Air NZ, SWA, CO, KLM all without trouble.

Each Airline has it's own negotiated pass agreements, so it would depend on who you work for. For instance, my parents can travel on CO, DAL, AA and SWA. There are restrictions on time of employment and the number of passes your parents can use in a year.
