CAL & Amtrack code share
According to the CAL routemap, thers's some sort of rail codeshare between Wilmington DE / PHL and NYC.

Does anyone know if a CAL crewmember can "jumpseat" and get a train ride to EWR?
Thanks,
Riddler

That's funny. I called Amtrak last night to inquire about that very route and found that no airline bennies apply. You can get a 10 trip pass (to be used within 45 days) for $565 or a $1271 "Smart Pass" (unlimited monthly riding). I thought about asking if they'd be interesed in signing up for CAASS.

If you are lucky sometimes the conductors will "forget" to collect any money from you on the train. I have had this happen occasionally. If you are in uniform and just get on the train you have about a 50/50 shot of having this happen.

I used to take Amtrak up to EWR and while I always bought a ticket, I actually asked the conductor about this. He said, the same thing quoted above. That it is possbile a conductor will just let you ride for fee. The worst case I think is having to buy a ticket on the spot. But, in some stations, you need a ticket to get to the platform and I don't know what to tell you about sold out trains.

This has happened to me many times, in BOS, DCA, BWI and other places. Amtrak employees treat airline employees as if we're one of them. I usually give them my card, and tell them to let me know if they fly on my airline, and I'll try to get them upgraded, even if I have to use FF milage. Sharing solidarity with fellow transportation workers, you know?
