Delta Questions?

I've got a couple questions for the Delta guys on the board...

1. How is seniority assigned? (Age or SSN)

2. What is the junior base and A/C? ( I suspect LGA)

3. How long on reserve at the junior base?

4. How long would it take to get Junior A/C in ATL?

5. Does going to an AirInc seminar helpful to getting an interview? (Had stuff in since Jan with no joy! 8500 hrs, 4 types, jet pic...)

Thanks for the help!!

Marty!

1. Last 4 of SSN with 9999 being most senior and 0000 being most junior

2. NYC is most junior...MD88 in LGA. The 737 and 767ER are based in JFK. MD88 is usually the junior aircraft, but a recent class all had 767ER, 767/757 and 737 with no MD88 spots at all, but that may just be an exception as they were very backed up in MD88 training department. So to answer your question, every class has different options and there is no way to tell which aircraft or bases will be offered to your class until day one of indoc.

3. Reserve on the MD88 in LGA may only be a couple months depending on how fast those above you are moving out of there to get to the base they wanted.

4. You would be able to hold ATL on the next advanced entitlement bid (system bid). They have these whenever there is a need, so I couldn't tell you how often they would happen, but recently it's been pretty often. We're hearing the next one would be in November. After the system bid, it would be anywhere from 1 to 6 months to be converted to your new aircraft/new base.

5. Sure it would help. Any face time you can get with the recruiters is better than any amount of time you sit on a computer database!

More Delta questions

I just got the call for an interview and was wondering where the best Delta interview gouge was? Also, how many hours on average are the new hires getting above the min? Based on the latest drops, it looks like NYC is easy if you want to go there. Is that common or is it cyclical and in 6 months NYC will be a hard domicile to get? Just wondering...

NYC will always be junior because of the cost of living. I guess that they could hire enough people who want it that they have no openings, but that will not happen for some time.

Most of the gouge that is out there is good, but make sure on the aviation knowledge test that you know the formulas as well.
I have some left over it you want it. Send me your e-mail addy and I will shoot it to you.

Awsome... my address is [email protected]. I appreciate any gouge you have and any hints / non-obvious prep stuff you would recommend. Thanks

Just thought of a couple more...

6. How many have been hired and how many more "projected"?

7. What is the attrition in the coming years... and how long to up-grade on the junior CA?

8. What's the recall like... can guys come in on top of me on the seniority. I believe that it's a 10 year recall rights?

Once again... thanks! ( And, thanks for not hi-jacking the thread!)

Keep the info flowin'

How large is the LAX base and how long would it take a new hire to obtain it?

6. It looks like about 285 have been hired this year including the class that just started yesterday. Last I heard about future hiring was about 250 more this year plus another 650 next year. After that, your guess is as good as mine.

7. Until age 60 goes away...another 15 this year, 61 in 2008, 75 in 2009. The flood gates don't really start to open up until 2016 with 500 a year for the next several years. Latest system bid shows most junior captain on MD88 NYC as a 11-1999 hire. That is an 8 year upgrade, but if you throw in the 6 years they didn't hire, it's almost like a 2 year upgrade. Who knows how long to upgrade though...I'm certainly not counting on a two year upgrade. Most captains were hired in 1991 and earlier to put things in perspective.

8. Yes, furloughed pilots have 10 years from date of furlough to come back as long as Delta is running classes. There are still about 200 pilots that are on furlough status that could come back any time in the next 3-4 years. And yes, if they come back, they would be ahead of you in seniority.

LAX has about 190 F/Os...32 on the 767-400 and the rest on the 767. The most junior F/O was a June 2007 hire. They have already displaced a lot of the 767-400 pilots and I think they are going to be moving the 767-400 out of LAX which would cause more displacements. With all that said, you could get LAX within 6 months or it could take several years if those displaced off the 767-400 move down to the 767...there's really no way to know for sure.

I don't mean to waste time and even asking this I feel like I am way over thinking things, but as far as the blue suit for interview, I have a conservative charcoal gray suit to go along with my red tie and white shirt. Do I still need to go buy a blue suit or will the dark gray be appropriate? Also, is a solid navy blue suit required, or is some pinstriping ok (I can't believe I'm writing this)? Just don't want to blow it over a suit color.
