Quick comparison - actual hours/month, mil leave, etc.

Here's what I learned/know about CAL so far. Anyone working there feel free to add their inputs!
- Guarantee 72/76 hours
- Lineholders on the 737 seem to get about 90 hours/month
- Minimum 12 days off per month
- Military guys can take 4 days of mil leave per month without too much hassle, and they'll still fly about 79 hours per month
- Desired that mil leave scheduled prior to the bid. I've heard that at SWA, some mil guys will "drop" a trip after the bid and then pick up open time for year 2 pay. Not the case at CAL.
- A Reserve - 9 hours from notification to pushback
- B Reserve - 3 hour callout
- As of now, there seems to be potential for rapid upgrade, especially at EWR.

What about Delta/United/NWA? Does anyone have comparable info on other carriers? I'm just trying to compare apples to apples, particularly between CAL and DAL.

Thanks,
Riddler

Riddler,

Excuse my ignorance, but 90 hours a month for 737, it that an average amount of days away? Is that blocked time or what you fly per month?

I hear that if you are on reserves on the 737, then you are not sitting but flying? As far as PBS and Mil leave, I also hear that PBS is not Mil leave friendly and most just bid a regular schedule and then make the reserves fit that schedule.

Still have 2 weeks until class and I am trying to stil absorb all the new terms.

Thanks,

Flyby

Ridder,
When is your DOS? Where are you looking at for Reserves? That's good info on CAL...too bad CAL isn't as mil-friendly as Southwest. Dropping a trip after the bid seems like one of the only practical ways of juggling Reserves. I myself am sick of the AD lifestyle and need a change...dropping papers next week for 1 May DOS.

I haven't established a DOS yet, but theoretically (he he), it would be mid May. Dover Reserves all the way! I have a CAL interview next week.

Sweet on the CAL deal. Good luck. How are the Dover reserves manned? I'd be looking to get to Dover or McGuire to get close to home. Travis reserves will hire me...but it makes the commute a little difficult. Surprised that CAL called you this far out....that awesome. I had better stop wasting time and get my app's in. Holding off on the papers another month....I don't want any unwanted deployments.
