Picture of AA STL engine fire
This is what is left of the STL left engine.
Temperatures were hot enough to melt the stainless
steel lines.

I deal with passengers on a regular basis who take flight delay announcements as if I were insulting their mother.
Yet for some reason, most of them take the news better when they know its for a mechanical reason.
And I'll always have 'that guy' who insists on knowing exactly what is being done to the airplane and the tail # so "he can call and make sure its being done correctly", as if Im lying to him about the whole thing.
Then I'll ask him who exactly he plans on calling, and I'll get as a response.
Meanwhile, he paid 69 bux and expects the world.

And for that price we will hurl him through the air at 500MPH and deliver him and his baggage safely to his destination. Seems like a good deal. He'll complain about it but think nothing of paying 250/day for a hotel, 50 for a bottle of wine, 75 for the taxi in to town.
I like what they used to say TWA stood for, Try Walking Across.
