Default MD-80/88 engine fires

Wonder what's going on this week. Two engine fires in two days. One on AA today and the other on Delta yesterday.

That JT-8D is getting to be an oooold engine. The years are eating into their reliablity record.

Pretty much what I figured. Kudos to the crews for a safe outcome.

Default AA saves the day

The Captain should have a show of hands asking the
passengers, Is he overpaid?

Wish I had that answer on video tape.

Nice job guys.

The pax would answer, but they're probably too busy writing letters to the editor about how afer the incident they were forced to sit on the "tarmac."

Good job to the crews involved in both!

At least the St Louis newspaper got it right - it's the "number left" engine. Don't ever call it #1 or #2, at least not at AA!

I laugh my a$$ off when I hear someone calling it "Number One" or "Number Two" on the Md80. "Starting Number Two." "Huh? Are you about to take a dump?"

I think McDD kept it at "left and right" when they designed it. Last I checked, even *****in Betty sings "FIRE LEFT ENGINE" when things get fubar.

Now on twin engine Boeings, they do number them.

Left and right is appropriate for twin engine aircraft. Numbers 1 2 3 4 is appropriate for more than two engines. Seems pretty simple to me.

I think it has something to do with me. DL was leaving the terminal as I was coming in at IND. Then I was sitting on the F pad waiting for our gate at STL as the AA plane did the low pass with the mains hanging down and the nose gear still up.

In both cases, kudos to the crews for keeping everybody onboard safe.

Did either incident require an emergency evac?
