Aviation Career
I've volunteered to participate in "career day" at my daughter's school and will be talking about aviation as a career to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I'd appreciate any info, links, photos, etc. you guys might share that you think would be useful/interesting to that audience. Specifically for you military guys, what kind of commitment is required these days and what are the prospects for someone looking at a chance to be a military aviator.
|
I think the AF commitment is 10 years after training... but they may have reduced it back to 8.

Army commitment is 6 years Active Duty after flight school. There is a "Highschool to flight school" program where 18 year olds can (if qualified) go from Basic Training direct to Warrant Officer Candidate School and then to Flight School. If you want to fly in the army then you don't want to be a Branch Officer (ie. LT, CPT, MAJ etc.) because the desk and managerial/leadership responsibilities get in the way too often.
Airliners.net has millions of great photos and a great photo search function, several good videos on youtube if you search airline pilot to get a "Day in the life." |
Be sure and tell them that bieng a pilot certainly is not what it used to be.

I would mention airport management & operations including airport maintenance, ARFF, airport police and managing an FBO.
Sorry I don't a link or photo to send. You may want to "Google" several career choices and gather the information from that. Hope this helps. atp |
