Default Life Expectancy May drop 2-5 yrs in decade

Due to obesity, studies show the life expectancy may drop 2-5 yrs in the next decade. Does this mean the mandatory retirement age should remain the same or even go DOWN to 55-58 years old? It''s on CBS evening news tonight. I added the retirement part

maybe they should weight pilots. those old lard asses with a BMI of 30 or more should be force out at 55, the normal ones at 60. those who can pass the JAAR medical and theoretical exams could be allowed to stay until age 65....that would be about 5 of them.

Yeah, right. Considering that life expectancy has gone up like 10 years since the Age 60 rule came out, age 65 is still low, if we're basing it on life expectancy.

All part of the plan........ Raise the retirement age, Lower the life expectancy.

Both serve very important purposes. They reduce actuarial requirements for DB plans. They reduce the number of people who will vainly be attempting to live out their retirement on DC plans before running out of money.

Just a new camp different name ( Dachau and Belsen ). Hey don't complain, could be worse..... like Auschwitz-Birkenau.

I agree with you however the comparison is... well, distasteful? I went to the Auschwitz concentration camp on a school trip many years ago (WW2 history class) and couldn't eat food for days.

I know what you meant and I agree with your post but I think your comparison is a little off here. Just my opinion of course…sorry about being a party pooper here

I could not agree more.

What happened in WWII is an example of what man will do to his fellow man if given the power and in his mind the “authority”

“Distasteful”? You are too kind. I would say abhorrent, repulsive, and disgustingly evil. Which describes the mindsets, goals, and actions of airline industry leadership being carried out against labor. Their actions have gone unchallenged.

Insidious to many the changes are real and will continue, unchecked. They have been given the power and in their minds the "authority"

In the future, after retirement, there will be a significant number of the boomer generation and beyond not eating for days.

I guess I'm confused on what you're saying. At first you imply that you're agreeing with my statement yet you keep comparing concentration camps to how employees get treated by the management of different airlines.

Yet what I trying to convey was that no matter how bad of a company one works for - NO airline in the world treats their employees the way the prisoners were treated or actually murdered in the concentration camps.
Again, I agree with you that very often the pilots are mistreated by greedy airline executives, no doubt about it. However, I think your comparison is very flawed and I find it pretty distasteful. There’s absolutely no comparison here, none, nada…

I gotta tell ya, I don't think I'd really mind losing the last two or three years of my life. They're going to be the worst years, anyway.
