Aviation degree A.S or Non Aviation B.A

So when it comes to the majors....

I already have a bachelor of arts degree. I am considering using my ratings and previous college credit to obtain a quick associates degree in aviation. So my question is...

Is this worth it? Will the major airline look at this and say an associates in aviation isn't a bachelor's in aviation and therefore not up to par? (despite the fact I already have a 4yr non aviation degree)

or should i just do the online MBA thing?

or nothing at all

thanks for the feedback

Any additional education can only help you in the future. Major airlines that want a university-level degree are looking for a BA or BS in any field.

A large part of the degree is the critical thinking, task management, studying, and intelligence skills that you acquire by completing the cirriculum.

So I say do the AS Aviation, and the MBA. I'm sure you won't regret it.

Nothing at all!!!!!

You already have a degree, that box is checked.

How much TURBINE PIC time do you have?

Are you currently flying part 121?

Do you have any type ratings?

Now is the time to start working on your "Experience" before adding to your "Education".

I got an AA and then a BS degree. Why would anyone who has a BA degree get an AA degree. This doesn't sound correct. I've never heard of this.

I do not think you are telling the truth.

The above post is correct. A lower level degree added regardless of the fact that it's in aviation will add ZERO to your competitive position. A higher (Masters) even though non aviation related will add but such a small amount not worth the effort if you are doing it just to get the flying job. If you are doing it for personal satisfaction or to better your options should the flying gig not pan out then, it is worthwhile.

Long time reader first time posting.....

I am in the exact same situation. I already have a BS degree in criminal justice and just recently registered to finish an AS degree in aviation that I started a long time ago....the main reason is to defer the school loan payments ;). Besides with the ratings that I have so far I would only need about 4 more classes in order to receive it.

I’m almost done with my bachelors in ERAU, after attending 3 schools (2 of which were not aviation related) I think that the aviation degree comes to improve your aviation general knowledge, but is not critical for a flying job----is good if you want to follow up with a master in aviation safety or something like that.

Having said that, if I were you I would go for the practical phase of your career (go make some hours) and do your MBA as you mention.

You basically cannot get hired at a major airline without a 4 year college degree.

Since you already have a 4 year college degree, you are fine. If I were you, I would get an MBA. You already have a bachelors level degree. The next step is a masters degree. I am pretty sure Delta is one of the airlines that has said higher level degrees increase your chances of getting hired. An MBA is a great choice.

There is nothing wrong with getting an associates degree in aviation (since you already have a 4 year college degree). However, it is really not necessary. A degree in aviation does not increase your chances of getting hired, anywhere. Getting an associates degree after you already have a bachelors degree is like getting a recreational pilots license after you already have a private pilots license? What's the point??

If you feel like getting more education (good for you), I would get an MBA. It is the most useful.

Well like the posting said, to check another box on the application. I have a BA (as in bachelor of arts) and it would be very easy to use said credentials and FAA ratings to obtain an A.S. (associates of science) I thought I made that very clear.
Or perhaps is it that english is not your first language? As a suggestion, if you don't understand a posting ask for clarification prior to questioning people's honor.

As for the other replies, just what I was looking for. Thanks for shedding some light on that guys.
Have a great new year.

I was wrong to question your honor. I apologize.
I fly for a major (American) I have a four year degree. I had to explain one grade on my transcript. And I have an AA and a BS degree.
Every interview is different or can go in a different direction.

I just would not want to have to explain why I had a BS then went and got an AA degree because I could use life experience to basically get it without doing the work.

HR and personel people are not dumb, they know whats up.
Me, i've been out of this so long that I should not have offered any advice here.

Best wishes.
