Anyone hear from US Airways?
 

So for reasons that are a bit tough to explain, US Airways is on my kinda short list for future employers. They seem to be quietly doing OK after their merger. I know, the seniority list is sticky, but the rest of the merger seems to be a qualified success. National carrier, little overlap with America West, airplanes on order instead of still parking, new China route, etc.

I have my stuff in and I know they have only just begun with a trickle of new hires, but I am wondering if anyone else has applied and heard anything or if it's just too early. I have heard that even with age 65 they expect to hire hundreds in 2008 and that they really don't have a big pool to choose from.

Seems like whenever anyone talks about the majors they talk about SWA, Delta, NWA, UAL, etc. But nobody hardly ever talks about US Airways. Are people just not interested in them?

I think everyone is waiting to see how things go when they actually have West guys/gals flying with East guys/gals.

Rumor has it that the AW side is STILL losing money and the are possibly going to be spun off.. all hear-say though

We have a lot of US Airways refugees here at Netjets. They were not furloughed or anything, they just left. talked to one of them, he said the merger was messy, and he just wanted to get away from underneath the "big blue umbrella".

From talking to some USair pilots they told me its just a glorified regional. Kinda sad, I heard used to be the best.

Well, their operation is largely East Coast. Since that's what I do now I may as well do it for mainline intsead of the ugly redheaded stepchild that my current employer is in the Airways system.

I doubt they would spin off the West side of the company. They are too integrated now to do that. Not to say that there couldn't be big changes though.

Time will tell. As always.

STILL losing money?

East coast routes are more profitable, that is true. But, west lost money because the management elected to put all their salaries on the West operation as well as IT and other accounting tricks to make the overall operation profitable while they still could.

STILL losing money? Let's not forget that West was profitable while operating out of PHX and LAS, two of SWA's favorite airports, while the East was in its second bankruptcy in 5 years yelling about how SWA was coming to PHL to "kill us" while whimpering its way out of business with a crappy operation.

USAirways was not profitable until the West got a group together to buy this pig. West showed a loss on the books, nothing more.

As for a spin off, it would be a personal dream come true to get rid of the old East coast pilot group with a merger or a buyout.

You are right about that! My knowledge of the history of US Airways is weak. It never even registered with me until my current employer entered into a contract with them about 2.5 years ago. We'll see what happens.

I applied a few months back. My times are competitive. I haven't heard anything.
