Question for NWA guys

I talked to a Northwest captain briefly awhile back who commutes from Austin, TX to DTW. How is that commute? What's QOL like?

I don't commute, and at this point in my careed WILL NOT COMMUTE! Any commute dramatically lowers your QOL.
I have flown with 2 guys that commute from AUS. One was a very senior A320 Captain that retired early...that should tell you someting. The other guy is the Chief Pilot for the 787 and he gets positive space both ways every week.
The problem with AUS in the past is it has been weight restricted due to the DC-9, and I don't believe we have more than a couple mainline flights in and out of there. I believe Compass/Mesaba are operating many of the flights now.
I know AUS is a great place to live, but you will pay the price. Best advice is move to a base.

I was in AUS the other day and i used to see the 9 there all the time but there was a CRJ-900 and a E-175 there instead. I am sure one was going to Memphis though. I have heard Memphis to AUS isnt bad. FWIW

The E jet comes from MSP and the 900 actually comes from DTW  That's a long time to spend on a RJ.

I commute, twelve years worth. Commuting sucks, but it beats living in MSP or DTW. No offense to the MSP bubba's. It's just that it is a whole lot warmer at the beginning of my commute than when I get to work. And, it suits my family. However, if you like high taxes and snow, MSP could be perfect.

I love the names you NWA guys pick out;)

There is a reason we pick these names. It seems to me there is a common link in our screen names. Do you think it could be the effective, warm and caring treatment we have received from out senior managers AND, ALPA over the last couple of years? I dunno, it seems plausible.

...and to think, I only work at a NW regional carrier. Let the punishments continue! :D
