Question NWA 2008 Payscale

During a recent interview with NWA I was informed that management may adjust first year pay for 2008 to more closely reflect what other majors are starting at. Has anyone else heard something similar to this?

Well since NWA is paying pretty much what UAL, CAL, and USAIR are paying i assume that you mean closer to DAL or some of the LLC? First year pay at the majors is embarrassing to say the least. Actually my wife and i are sitting home tonight figuring out our budget so we can manage through first year pay, its going to suck. I hope it changes this year but i am not holding my breath.

My fiance and I are running the same numbers. I am having a hard time understanding why airline unions of the past have accepted such pay as an industry standard when the requirements to be considered "qualified" for the job are so high. In no other profession do such payrates even remotely exist; medical interns do indeed make more.

Where I currently work, we pay CFI's more money to come over and fly right seat and they barely have over a year in the industry. Furthermore, my fiance's first job out of college pays well over twice what first year pay is at NWA, it's embarrassing and something I am not proud of discussing with her parents or mine for that matter. Seven years of flying in the reserves and GA to make what, less than the median income for a high-school graduate? Even second through fifth year pay on the narrow body is nothing to be proud of and still well short of the corporate world. With four years left until an amendable contract round there are some tough decisions to make.

I have a friend of mine working at CAL and he has heard rumors of the same. Bring first year pay up to about 40-45 and starting medical from day one. I myself am keeping my figers crossed for NWA to bring first year pay up, but who knows. I have heard that NWA was thinking of bringing DC9 pay up to A320 pay in hopes to save money in training cost.

Does anyone know what the avg pay is per month during the first year? I know it depends on a number of factors but any guesses or any of you first year guys mind chiming in? I have ran some rough estimates so far. Thanks guys.

How about pay during training? It's probably like 22 hours a month at half the normal hourly rate or something.

Quote your source.... I don't think NWA has seen anything different than CAL, DAL UAL etc.
