One Shot Deal?

Hey all,
Received the email from NWA.:( Soooo... just wondering if anyone knows for sure, what, if any, is the wait time to try again? Didn't state one in the email, so I don't know if that was my one and only shot? If I wanted to try again.
Looks like my choice is to stay at Spirit or go to UAL. Or, if there is a wait period, wait and try again at NWA, while I stick it out at Spirit.

Sorry to hear that buddy, i haven't heard of a wait time but since they didn't say just resubmit if it will allow you to do so. Good luck.

Man, that sucks!:( If there wasn't a time stated in the email I would do as the previous poster suggested and just resubmit ASAP. Perhaps it will only be a few more months before you can try again.

Thanks. But actually it might be a blessing. Makes less options in my decision. And I was kinda leaning toward UAL. The only thing that wasn't making me happy was the paying for the hotel, and only 70 hours pay.
Otherwise, I think a stronger union group, and if they (we?) can get close to pre 9/11 wages!!!!

I liked the fact at NWA (besides the paying for hotel, being in base,... ) has flow back to Compass if the poop hit the fan again.

Well on a positive note, you have desisions;) Good luck and hopefully we can all get the pay back up!! Cheers:D

SBD,

Seems like you're in a good spot anyway. The pay at NWA isn't really any better than at Spirit.

Have any idea why they said no? Bad sim ride or no idea? I'm going in about a month, so just curious why you didn't pass...

Well, the pay isn't good as Spirit no matter where I go (in the beginning). Just that I live outside DTW (no commute/crash pad), and they would've paid for the hotel, and pay is more than United (initially).
I think my sim ride wasn't smooth (you actually have to fly it, unlike the bus-even with the autopilot off:eek:), but our CRM I felt was good. Proper hold entry... my "partner" for the sim got the nod! He did a nice job. Although he went second, and saw my f ups.;)
Also lost track of time talking to other applicants in the cafeteria, and didn't get down to the lobby in time. Actually met the interviewer sent to get me, coming up the stairs. STUPID on my part.
I did feel the actual interview went well. But I might have been done before that point? Who knows? Good Luck to you.

Don't know about that.
1. At least a $125,000.00/yer pay CUT initially
2. New born at home (read- diapers, babysitter while wife and I are at work...)
3. Can't sell the house for what it's worth. Buy out, or keep making the payments? (it comes out even in a year)
4. PAY for the hotel room/car while in training
5. Possible recession on way
6. Possible merger on way
7. Long upgrade, and if the rates stay at/near where they are now, I can make more at Spirit per year on the same A/C, and a better QOL

However.
1.It IS United
2.United will PROBABLY be around longer than Spirit
3.Chance at bigger aircraft, variety of flying (spelling?)
4.Chance of payrates going up a pretty good percentage (?)

If I didn't have a wife, kid, house, Harley... I would jump on it. No "responsibilities".

But, do I stay and pray that Spirit will be around (one way or another) until I retire, or medical out?
Or take the hits now for a POSSIBLE better future?

No brainer ha?:(

SBD,

just my 2c....

if you are a captain here at nk, why leave to go sit in the right seat for many years.

who knows what will happen with Spirit in the future, or any other airline for that matter....you are in a good place right now....you should hang out and wait to hold cpt in dtw. It will prob take you less time than it would to upgrade at UAL.

Good luck with your decision!!

Thanks for the opinion. I don't think I'll ever hold CPT in DTW again. And if I do get to, I'll be living somewhere else by then.
Who knows, UAL might drop down to 3-5 years upgrade like it did at CAL, and the way it was prior to 9/11.
I always said it would be my luck, I'd leave Spirit, they would become the "SWA of S./Central America", and I'd be out on the street due to a furlough.:(

SBD, this one hell of tough decision. Like anything else in this industry, it's a gamble if you go to UAL. But I guess it's also a gamble to stay at Spirit. Talk it over with your wife because her, your baby, and yourself are the only ones you have to answer to. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

gasnhaul 02-08-2008 11:39 AM

SBD,

Thanks for the info. Still sorry to hear how it turned out.

With the UAL deal, I didn't get past the Hogan eval. A buddy of mine who is a furloughed UAL FO said "you didn't tell me you were applying...I would have told you not to cuz friends don't let friends apply to United". Tough call, I know the commute must be a bit**...

Take it easy and best o luck to ya either way!
