Guard or reserve at JetBlue?
Are there any flying military guard or reserve at Jetblue? Maybe I’m a bit paranoid, but body language from a B6 recruiter suggested that it might not be desired.

There are a lot of us @ B6. Don't know the demographics but I'd say over half the guys I've flown with either were in (retired, bailed) or are still in (USNR, ANG, AFRES, etc). If you even get a sniff of that from them that is a law suit waiting to happen -- see here:

I wouldn't think one of our recruiters would be that dumb -- especially since we just lowered our mins to the basement and they claim there is a pilot shortage out there. I am fairly active with my squadron and have had NO problems at all. I think one or two dudes in the past got bit for trying to double dip, by claiming MIL leave and actually being at ground school for another airline. Don't be stupid. Don't abuse a the system. Most people are good with it.
Some of the "all-civil" guys at the company get their panties in a bunch and say "you military guys this...or that" regarding taking mil leave, but I don't see them picking up trips to combat zones in their free time. Walk a mile in my flight boots, right?

If you're going to do both mil and airline flying, I highly recommend two things...live at your mil duty location, and join the reserve officer's association. Great legal help if the company tries to jerk you around.

I remember during our "day in the life" after training at JetBlue, they made it sound like you had to have your mil request in more than a month in advance. I do that for my scheduled drill weekends, but if a trip pops up with my squadron or I need to do any other mil stuff, I just send Chief Pilot Admin an email and they clear my schedule - no questions asked.
The company doesn't advertise how easy it is to drop trips for mil because they want to get their money out of you. The fact is that the law is on your side. Just don't try to pull a fast one with dropping trips for "military duties" that turn into a vacaction in Aruba for you and your family and you'll be okay.

Concur with both these guys -- YES live where you unit is. Don't double commute -- one is enough. PERIOD. I try to give them a heads up about MIL (yes I give my DWE sked but that's about it) -- otherwise as Fins said, the law is on your side, squadron calls, you tell the CP's secretary, and that's it. Fini.
