If you could go back, what would you do differently?

If you could go back and repeat the whole thing all over again, what would you do different? Or would you not change anything?

I'd upgrade the carpet instead of going with what was in the builder's budget.

In 1991, when I was flying the Intel Contract out of SAC, my boss said I should buy some of their stock. I should have begged, borrowed, or stolen enough money to buy a few thousand shares. :)

The other, should of, was to buy a house in California in 1996.

Hindsight is always 20/20. You can't second guess your decisions or you will drive yourself crazy. Just try and make the best decision you can with the facts on hand. I don't regret anything I've done in my career choices. I always make the best decision I can at the time. It's worked out okay so far.

HAHA

I should have been more specific with the topic, but who cares.

Typhoonpilot, what have you been up to?

I would have gotten a degree in something unrelated to flying and that can be done at a desk. That way I'd have a backup career which is not dependent upon passing a semi-annual physical exam. I'd keep my second officer wife and my first officer house so I'd have the disposable income to go back to my backup career when (not if) my company falls on it's rear. Frankly, my company is doing fine right now but United guys (and Delta, et al) would have said the same thing about their company a few years ago, so you can't count on making it to retirement with the same company anymore.

I did buy a house in mid 1996 in CA, then sold it in Jan 2000. $5000 profit, which was mostly eaten in costs. Now I'm told if I sold it today, I'd have made a $250,000 profit. Go figure.

But at least I've got my health, my family's health, and a good paying, secure flying job.
