Delta Vacation Questions
How is the vacation system at Delta setup? Do you have to bid your vacation once a year, or can you pick a week up with little notice? Can you take off specific days (say you need a wedding off and only need two days)? How much vacation for a first year guy? 5th year guy? Do you have to take your vacation Monday-Sunday or can you say I need Thursday-Wednesday instead? Are the vacation weeks preawarded in PBS requiring you to bid around them? Can you save up vacation time and exchange for $$$ or is it use it or lose it? Any other info would be great.

You start out with 1 week and accrue additional weeks with years of service. Weeks 2-4 accrue rather quicky - I think at 10 years you have 4 weeks but weeks 5 and 6 take a little longer. 1 week is the minimum time to bid for - you can have 8, 9 , 10 days etc if you are prorated for mil lv etc, but I am pretty sure the minimum bid vacation is 1 week. Our vacation year goes from April to March, I have no idea why. If you just need 2 days off you can request a personal drop (no pay and requires good reserve coverage) or an authorized personal drop (this is your once a year "silver bullet" for dropping trips with a more liberal reserve coverage required, but still no pay.) I was able to drop 4 days over Christmas with my APD this year but I was lucky, a lot of guys were unable due to minimum reserve coverage. Also, with PBS its pretty easy to get a specific day off unless its a holiday or the Super Bowl. Reerves do not use PBS yet - still lines of time.
