Question on landing (3&3)

At your airline how do they handle someone who is coming up on a 3&3 issue due to no flying being on reserve, bidding RFO trips, etc?

Is it your responsibility to go fly for no money or do they build you a trip?

Do you have to go to the simulator on your nickel or are you paid?

Can you request 3 landings in the sim, and/or is it just landings or a check ride?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.

Call CP office, have a sim scheduled - easy enough! I can only speak for my airline, but we get positive space, hotel if needed, and get our 3&3 done that way.

I would call crew scheduling and let them now. If it were here at XJ, you would be on a 6-leg trip the next day.

Prior to UPS ... this nearly happened to me at Cactus while bidding reserve.

I think it was training records that notified me of the need for landings approx 2 weeks from the 90 day mark. Told me to work with scheduling ...

When I spoke with crew scheduling, they were already aware, and their plan was to simply displaced another FO from a trip before I expired. I do his turn, he goes home early with pay ... No pain for anyone except the Captain stuck flying with me !

I ended up getting called in anyway. But it wasn't COMPLETELY up to the individual to stay current.

I saw some of the venom in the FDX cargo thread about your senior IRO lines ... and I must say some of them need to get over it.

Why should one have to alter their bid choices to stay current ? Nearly every aspect of airline operations have some sort of DUAL cooperation to comply with the regs ...

On a side note ... I can't even hold a line here at Brown. But it does appear from a casual glance that our IRO lines (on the B767 anyway) have just enough FO legs built into them to maintain currency. So it CAN be built that way, FWIW. Maybe your "optimizer" needs to crank out some landing friendly lines at Purple ...

Later, Brown CC
