Jumpseating from DEN to ORD

I am a new hire with an airline based in ORD. I am looking at commuting from DEN to ORD. Am I crazy? Or is this plausible? DEN and ORD are both United hubs. DEN and ORD (I am guessing) have a lot of commuting pilots. Also interested in commuting from SEA. I have only some experience jumpseating.

How difficult will this be? Anyone on APC doing it now? Also, was thinking I can try MDW and take the $13 shuttle to ORD if need be. Thanks everyone for your help.

Anyone know of any inexpensive hotels that are suitable for commuting pilots in ORD? If so, what hotels and how much $ ?

in so far as flights between ORD & DEN, United uses 777s. should be able to find a seat somewhere on one of those.

As long as the weather is good, you should have no problems. Lots of flights on several different airlines between ORD and DEN.

Dang! You're not as cheap as me. Take a look at the L (CTA-Chicago Transit Authority). From MDW, Orange line to Library, walk to Jackson. Blue line to ORD. $2.

Or just ride Orange to Clark/Lake and avoid the walk...it takes 2 hours versus 30 min so it depends on what kind of time you have to make a sign in

DEN to ORD? You're crazy! :D I've been deadheaded on some of those flights and personally saw 30 flight crew trying to jumpseat on a 777...not all of them got on...doesn't even count non-revs.

SEA to ORD? Your're crazy! :D We'll, not quite as crazy. I know a few folks who do this just with SkyWest. I'm sure there are a ton of commuters on this one. I don't envy you either way.

All of us commuters are CRAZY! :D That's all there is to it.

I used to commute from ORD to DEN, and found that riding on American was the best bet. Most times I could not get on the United flights. On more than one occasion I was kicked off at the last minute when a United pilot would show up.

Take American. Frontier and SWA are also options going to MDW then take the train to ORD

Most hotels in the ORD area are about $39-$43 per night...excluding tax... that is the United crew rate...commuting. I imagine that is universal for all the airlines. Comfort, LaQuinta, Best Western all are that rate.
