Default How does CAL pay work?

I'm looking at their pay scales and I see the LN and SN pay differently. At RAH we have the 145/140/135s. In stl a captain gets the 140 pay unless he flies a 145 then he gets difference pay at the end of the month. Does cal pay like this or does each aircraft require additional training so you aren't flying multiple models?

Small narrow = 737-300 & 500 & 700
Large narrow = 737-800 & 900 and 757-200 & 300
Widebody = 767-200 & 400 and 777

If you are on the 737, you fly ALL 5 models. You get paid what you fly. senior guys try to bid all large narrow flying. No one flys a whole month of small narrow, you always get some large flying because there are so many 800's and 900's (with more coming). For other pay like vacation, dead head, and training, you get paid a "blended rate". Right now the rate is about 50/50, which means you get paid the average of the small and large rates for all misc pay. This means you get paid more to deadhead on a 737-500 than to actually fly it.

If you are on the "756", you fly all four of the 757 and 767 models. The same thing applies. You get paid what you fly and get a blended rate between large narrow and widebody for everything else.

The 777 is easy, you get widebody pay for everything. The 787's are rumored to be a dual type with the 777's, so they will be in the same group as the "778". You'll get to fly both the 777 & 787.

I don't believe the FAA has signed off on the 777/787 common type yet. Your going to have to wait until they finish testing the 787 to determine that. It would actually be better for us if it were different since it would require more pilots to staff it separately.

I agree. I'm just quoting a 777 instructor. If I can fly a 737-300 & 900 or a 757-200 & 767-400 (and the FAA bought that) then I think the 777/787 will be no big deal. Separate is better for us. How about 737 classic and 737 NG. Plus the 767-400 as a separate sub-base.? The company will do the cheapest thing they can.

What's the hiring outlook for this year. Are things still looking on the up and up? My old CFI is there and one of my Air Force students, who had already been in the AF 10yrs, has decided not to fly for the air force. He has a management style job in the training department. I'll most likely hit CAL mins at end of March and will be tossing the app in to update regularly.

CAL is slowing for the summer like they always do until Sept or October. Really watching the DL/NW merger fiasco to see if we are going to have to join forces with UA. If not, plan on more good hiring for 08 like we have had for the last few years.
