If God wanted man to fly, we'd be born with radiation suits!

If you read their example, the pilot in question incurred a 1-in-320 increase in risk of fatal cancer. That's a 0.3% increase.

But you have to remember that 24% of americans will die of cancer anyway...so you add 0.3% to that and you get a 24.3% chance of fatal cancer.

You can reduce your non-occupational risk (the 24%) by various healthy- living techniques (diet, exercise, avoid chemicals, etc). I take vitamin E when flying to help with the free radicals.

free radicals.

Hey, I heard that! I'm a pilot, I'll take anything that's free! Where do I get mine? ;)

I believe you have to overnight near Capitol Hill to get Free Radicals.

Where can I get a lead blanket (the one they wrap you in for X-rays)?:D

You will be fine if you wear some tin foil on your head. Always have an extra sheet or two in the flight bag.

Just line the inside of your cap (with the foil) and wear that in the cockpit preferably. Less funny looks from passengers that way!

Common mistake!! You have to use the heavy duty tin foil and if you go above FL250, you can't use the foil more than 3 times before it picks up possibly fatal particles.

You can find a good supply here. http://tinyurl.com/2yk2dh

This topic was discussed on one of the meetings I have participated. Is there a correlation between this and the rumor that FedEx pilots' lifespan is shorter than average Americans? I've heard that more than once from various people.

Tin foil will actually aggravate the situation, just like aircraft aluminum causes radiation to be even more harmful. Only way to protect yourself would be to wear an anti radiation space suit complete with a helmet and your own oxygen tank! Don't forget your anti radiation gloves!

Well I've always liked a little radiation in the morning...
