continental pilot training center/iah
ok,,am i using the scale correctly,, a continental pilot with 21 yrs flying for the airline, based in houston, and working at the continental training center training other pilots would be eligible to bid on the highest paying line he could hold..so while in houston he would only be able to hold a fo on the 767,,if he were in newark he could captain the 767,,so now that he's in the training center,he bids on the captian 767,, even though he won't be flying it, and gets paid at that rate.? and all the while gets to stay in houston, work bankers hours.. 8-5ish, steady predictable work week and also gets an override pay of$$??..with the way the industry is going, if one were trying to maximize the money they are making at this current contract,etc.. this would be the best way for a pilot with 21 yrs,,right?? of did i miss something?? thanks for all those who knows the ins and outs..

yes,,well, it's nice to have old friends in the right places...i wonder if they have a seniority system at the training centers also... and what are the newbie hours like compared to the pilots that have been their a while,, 8 to 5 is 8 to 5 right? holidays off i'm sure,, any idea what the override is like?? are we talking a couple hundred a month or a couple of thousand..?

bill,,you sure do know alot about the ins and outs ..thank goodness for this forum,, does the flight center work 3 8 hour shifts,,so it's open 24 hours,, or is it 2 8 hour shifts,,or some permutation thereof,,, are the schedules bid on every month, the same way lines are,,or are they assigned based on seniority ..another question,, regarding the contract concessions,, while it's been said it was 8.9 percent cut in hourly rates,, what is the real affect,,,, i know that deadhead now only gets paid half rate.. what other major blows..?? i guess though, none of them would affect someone in the training center..so sounds to me like..given the stats i posted,, 200,000 a year is still very doable.. with the override added in,etc..

i'd say many if not most instructors are making $200k a year. why not? they can bid airplanes and bases they'll never have to fly unlike the rest of us peons.
a sim period is 4:30 plus a 2 hr brief beforehand. the sims essentially operate on a 24 hr schedule with all of the hiring going on. the company has asked us to allow back side of the clock training events but so far we've turned them down. i do know we are using the AA sims in DFW and boeing's in SEA since we are literally out of sim time.
i do not know how the instructors bid. never asked and don't care since i never want to work training. i believe they have to conduct 16 training events per month. it could be a training period, a checking period, or an oral (although almost all orals are done on the computer now.)
