Delta ground school supplies
Is it helpful to have a laptap for training. Do certain classes(ac), have cd's to study from. If so, I would think it would be worth the money to get one and be able to do that in your room when you want instead of relying on the hotel's comuputer. Thoughts? Worth getting even though money is tight?

A lap top would be nice, but it's not necessary. There will be no homework during indoc. But if you were so inclined, you could get an early jump on your aircraft ESV test or the aircraft systems CD-ROM. Keep in mind, whichever computer you use to study the systems CD-ROM, you will need to use that computer the whole time. You can't start with the laptop and then finish with your home PC. Well, actually, you could. But you would have to start from the beginning. So pick a reliable computer and use that one. The ESV CD-ROM can be used on any computer at anytime.
I had my laptop with me but only used it for getting on-line to check emails and chat with the fam. Good luck. Have fun. Bid the 800! T PS - in case you didn't know, ESV stands for Electronic Systems Validation. Which is a fancy way of taking your oral exam. |
ER to JFK is the bomb!! Bid there!! Bid there!!! :-)

Unless you SSN is below 8000 - then you can bid whatever you like ;) |
My advice is save your money and go low tech.
Make Flash Cards for systems and limits (they probably have them for sale). Take a small tape recorder and record your flows from the FH detailing how and what you check. Then go sit in the mock up and go through the motions while listening to the tape. (I've done this for the past 20 years on every transition, and I have tons more time to drink beer). If you can pre-study, take a system per day and read that chapter - now find all the irregulars/abnormals and EPs for that system. Everyday while in training - take a blank sheet of paper and write all your limits and memory items. Don't stop after your at 100% - keep going until you take your check. (then dump it like everyone else :). The schoolhouse will have all the AV resource you need, so in my opinion you won't need a laptop. If you just need someone to validate a purchase you're already talked yourself into - then, yes you absolutely need a laptop. Of course don't complain to us when you spend all your time playing solitaire :p Good Luck, Congrats, and have fun. |
Thanks guys I appreciate the advice.
As far as an ac I was typed in the 737(failed attempt at SWA) and actually did all my sim in a 700/800, so the 737 would be nice but I hear the best way to get the most time at home, the quickest, is the md88 NYC. I have four kids, a wife who is a pilot and junior with a bad sched and can wait till later in life to do the big iron cool stuff. I just want extra time at home for now, I hope the advice of taking the mad dog out of NYC is accurate for my goals. I will be commuting out of DTW. I am use to 7-8 legs a day for the last ten years on a saab, so I ain't scared!::D |
