Miramar's Spirit Airlines cracks top 10 in international traffic

For the first time, Miramar-based Spirit Airlines ranked in the top 10 among U.S. airlines for international passenger traffic in 2007.

According to data issued Thursday by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Spirit carried 1.3 million international passengers, a 74 percent increase from 2006.

It ranked 10th among all U.S. airlines, up from 14th a year earlier. American Airlines was tops with 21.6 million enplaned international passengers in 2007.

Spirit flies to 21 foreign cities, and will add Cartagena, Colombia, in May.

From my understanding JO does infact have a small investment with Indigo who owns or partially owns Spirit. JO does not have anything to do with Spirit. Indigo btw owns a number of airlines around the world. Indigo is also part of TPG who also has its hands in a number of airlines (remember Midwest?)

I certainly hope that JO doesn't wiggle his way into a CEO position with ANY of them.
