Don Carty is back!!

Virgin America Names Donald Carty Chairman

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Virgin Group Ltd. (VGN.YY) named Donald J. Carty chairman of the company's airline start-up, Virgin America Inc.

In a press release Monday, Virgin America said Carty, 59 years old, served as AMR Corp.'s (AMR) chairman and chief executive from 1998 to April 2003.

Carty's appointment to Virgin America was made by VAI Partners LLC, an investment group funded by U.S. investment firms Black Canyon Capital and Cyrus Capital Partners.

AMR agreed to become an investor in VAI Partners, which owns 75% of Virgin America's equity. Virgin America plans to launch flights in the U.S. this year.

That should help them recruit pilots...

I'll bet Carty is chomping at the bit with this chance to wreak havoc on his old carrier and employees.

I'm surprised Virgin Am. felt the need to hire damaged goods. Could anyone imagine Southwest hiring a stiff suit like him?

C'mon, you guys! Don't you realize this is all about the Golden Parachute recycling center, where you can trade in that slightly tarnished Golden Parachute for a bright shiny new one, one that will be polished by all the eager new pilots who want to fly a 'bus for 50k.

Wow, sounds like AMR has found a way to challenge scope at AA and not use Eagle in the process, or at least use this place as a bargaining chip. I bet the APA guys are sweating bullets right about now. Add Carty to the picture and I bet things get UGLY.

I hope his new airline flops more than ever now.

Never forget, Don Carty lost his job at American over ethics.

No doubt. I was thinking the same thing.
