SWA Maintenance in news again
Good 8 minute story on NPR this morning about the FAA, Southwest and Maintenance issues. FAA did not look good but SWA looked pretty bad too - unethical influence to violate rules, etc.

So much for SWA's "good guy" image.
The FAA got a huge black eye, and of course they'll try to make up for it by hammering the airlines to show they're "on top of it." I'd hate to be in the maintenance departments at any 121 airline these days.

I think this is mostly bull.
"Whistleblowers" are frequently disgruntled workers who think they're more important and smarter than they actually are. They spin a story that makes them look good and their bosses bad.
The headlines yesterday said something like;"FAA more interested in airline profits than safety".
In reality, air travel is unbelievably safe and getting safer every year. At the same time, no one is making any money (Aloha, ATA, the entire industries stock price).

1Seat - huh? So blame the victim huh? Whistleblowers are mostly disgruntled employees - that's a real defense. Stay flying in the AF - we don't need you on the other side.
How about Herb who issued a formal apology today? You don't get that too often - wonder why he did it?

Tuck, you may not agree with 1Seat's opinion, but grow up. I think the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle. SWA screwed up and so did the FAA. Who knows what the motivations of the whistleblowers are. The media is doing what they do best, playing up the general public's fear of the unknown (ie, average Joe doesn't know what keeps the wings from falling off). The politicians are involved, so I'm automatically wary of their motivations. Either way, things will probably change for MX departments and the way they deal with the feds. Fine.

If it wasnt for people like tuck you wouldnt have a job in a free country. How about acting like the professional you claim to be? Its amazing to me how immature people can be on these posts.

As far as this whistleblower comment goes - the ONLY reason we know anything about this at all is because of a whistleblower - now they might be wrong but you don't attack their credibility by saying "they have some sort of grudge" - show me where they're wrong. If they're right, then I don't care what type of grudge they have - it's irrelevant. Moral of the story is if you're going to **** people off then you better not have any skeletons in your closet.
