Default Air Marshal Training A "National Disgrace"

Here's another CNN investigation report. It's a crying shame I don't know how accurate the media is anymore. Emphasis added.

SAN DIEGO, California (CNN) -- Their mission is to protect airline passengers from acts of terror on U.S. flights. But in a special investigation, former and current air marshals told CNN that the number of marshals assigned to police flights is so low that the federal agency overseeing them has drastically lowered its firearms and psychological testing standards just so it can qualify new hires.

More than a dozen current and former marshals told CNN that so many federal air marshals have resigned and are not being replaced that airport screeners are being employed to fill the dwindling ranks.

you live in a country where nothing happens unless somebody dies.

What'd you expect?!?

Imagine the day of a FAM. Sitting in the back of an airplane all day on multiple legs doing nothing (good thing). I'd quit too. I hate riding in the back of airplanes.

Exactly. I've contemplated going the LE route several times when younger, but the attraction was alwys the interaction with peers and perps. I'd go nuts as a FAM...

The guys who can excel in serious tactical training are just not going to be interested...unless the economy REALLY goes down hill (I even considered FAM post 9/11 when my flying job evaporated).

The FAMs job is not really to shoot terrorists...it is to serve as planning obstacle which is hard for the bad guys to quantify...the high-end tangos do take non-quantified risks or conduct hail-mary operations.

"In July 2006, the Federal Air Marshal Service sent out a memo saying that new hires would no longer face mandatory psychological testing, unless the recruit admits that he or she has been treated for a mental condition."

Pilots get annual testing and many of us have 6-20+ years of military training, but the libs don’t feel “safe” with us armed.

It should be mandatory that all pilots be armed, even cargo. Look at the homeless guy they found on a UPS airplane. Who says Cargo is safer???

I'm not taking this CNN article as gospel. Not to say that the "sources" may or may not have had these experiences, but I've also read things from air marshals that tell a contrary story. Much easier to sell the story when you have controversy--no one cares about an article titled, "Air marshals say job includes wearing Hawaiian shirts and sleeping regularly on flights."
