Delta email

Anyone else get an email today from Delta encouraging you to come speak with them at the job fair in Vegas? It was from an airlineapps email address, so I wondered if it was to everyone who sent Delta an app through airapps, or more specific than that.

JoeyMeatballs 04-25-2008 04:23 PM

I got that email and I am far far far away from competative

They want to get the word out about their hiring plans to come. They want you to get it straight from the horses mouth, so you see and hear the sincerity, not some word of mouth or rumor. IE Face time with the people who make the calls.

If you have a chance, go.

I got the interview (and job) by going to an aviation university's career day. I didn't know a soul at Delta and never thought I had a shot at it. I went to this career fair for the single reason of talking to their recruiters.

Meeting the recruiters face-to-face is golden, especially if you have no special "in" at a company.

Yeah I got it too...if I already had an interview scheduled which got canceled do you still think it is worth it to go all the way there?

They said I would be on the list when interviews resume. I live in NC.
Thanks...

It it is true they should be hiring in 9 months, it is worth going. It nothing else have a good time in Vegas. However I doubt they will be hiring that quick with what they have going on. Just my 2cts.

Anyone who has an application on file for Delta via airlineapps got the e-mail.

Seems to me it's designed more to enhance the job fair coffers than get anyone a job at an airline likely to have some layoffs.

Would you drop $85 to go to an American Airlines job fair? Neither would I. Seems pointless to interview for a job that may or may not be opening.

I know the numbers don't add up, but has anyone else heard about the new Delta being 500 pilots short between DAL/NWA?

I think it depends on fuel. If oil continues up there will prob be furloughs and they will park the MDs and the 9s. If oil trends back down, things may be ok.

Not sure how those numbers have stewed up but I have heard it from multiple sources. International crew expansion? I don't know.

PS - I got the email too

I had no "in" at Delta and my app was in for 18 months before I got a call. For some the "prep" and "networking" can be years instead of months. Want a job at one of the top legacies? I lost a job oportunity, in my opinion, specifically because of the things I should have said and not said in an interview that my Air Inc. prep cleared up for me. I should have done the prep before. It worked for me this time. Just like a prep, this type of face time with Delta, in my opinion, is priceless, no matter when they start hiring again. Especially because the people that are there are not just office helpers without any pull. They are the change maker people. The Prize is well worth the price as far as I am concerned. Good luck!:D

One of the things that Delta looks for is dedication. Both to aviation in general and a desire to be at Delta.

There are 6 more firm orders for the 777 (verified in earnings report) as well as options for more. Each one means about 40 pilots and the hiring folks told me they need to hire again.

Of course, anything can change but if you have a chance to get some visibility and aren't lining Kit Darby's pockets, it's a great opportunity.

Good Luck!

Do you think with all the international expansion and the purchase of NWA they'll take some of NWA's international out of BOS and finally make it crew base again.

got the email, not planning on going, don't think anyone would remember my face in 9 months, besides I have 2 internal LORs so will wait it out...

Anyone else get the email about being offered an interview when they resume hiring from the CP?

BOS is already a flight attendant base...as far as Delta adding new crew bases...IMO they're going to have to close or significantly reduce either MEM and/or CVG (or others) to realize some "synergy..." I think it will be two years or more before they'd even think about a new pilot domicile.

Incidentally, it will probably be around two years before any massive "synergy-achieving" changes take place...a fact the company must have been aware of when agreeing to 24 month furlough "protection."

another example of the "rent-seeking" going on in airline hiring... i can't believe delta is encouraging guys to spend a bunch of $$$ to smack up. smells of a racket if you ask me. this is the only industry i can think of where *candidates* pay to enter a "job fair."

They're just exploring creative options re: how to pay for fuel...
