DAL April 28th Class??

I was in the training center today and passed by the new-hire room. There is a April 28th class that just started. I thought there was also an April 21st class as well. Does anyone know if I'm mistaken about the 21st class or is this an extra class prior to the May class?

Thanks. Also, does anyone have the drop from this class?

For anyone in the class, it's great to see the new faces. Welcome aboard!

You sure it wasn't the class from last week. They are most likely still in the same room with their names on the desk.

That's what I thought but the class roster says April 28. I even asked one of the guys if that was true and he replied yes. I wasn't sure if they snuck in a class in between the 21st and May 5th classes. 30 more guys would be great!

I too saw the date on the welcoming sheet and was a bit perplexed. I thought they were the names from the last weeks class. But I could be wrong.

It was the NWA April 28th class, they are now using Atlanta for the training.

Yeah, I saw the same thing... Best I could tell, it's the same names that were on the roster for the April 21st class... I think the date on the roster is wrong... The people you saw I believe are in week 2 of Indoc... Next (and last) class comes in this Monday - May 5th. ;)

It was definitely the April 21 class. May 5 is the last, something like 18 new hires and about 10 recalls. Here's the drop

13 76ER JFK
5 MD JFK
5 MD ATL
3 73 CVG
1 MD CVG
3 76 LAX
1 73 LAX

Pretty good spread, I think 4 of the NY MDs went last.

Any idea about next class drop?

acl65pilot 05-02-2008 04:57 AM

It will be a mix like the last one to fill the holes that need to be filled as the door closes. Look for some ATL, SLC and LAX (767 IS SHORT THERE) slots. Probably a few NYC ER's as well. Everything else is well staffed.
They will get to bid on the AE that is coming out as well.

DeadHead 05-03-2008 02:53 AM

Any idea how big the next class is?
Missed the 21st class by a few slots, starting to get nervous that the class might cancel.
As far as everyone knows its still on, right? I know it's only a few days away and I have the class date offer in hand, but you never know.
People I've talked to in the last class say that Delta is not the type of place to leave people hanging high and dry at the last minute.
Hoping that's true.

If it calms your nerves a bit, the May 5th class is on the May seniority list. 18 I think.

DeadHead 05-03-2008 09:33 AM

thanks that helps, i'm sure it won't be cancelled, but you never know.

On a (somewhat) related note, I've been looking at the projected staffing 22D2 report (Pilot Resources and Scheduling, near the top on the right). It forecasts the number of pilots needed in September, and it shows a significantly smaller number than the February 22D3 below it (to the tune of 700 folks). Any experienced DAL guys know what to make of that? Is this the domestic cutback showing up? If so, why is it also reflected in the Intl categories (JFK ER, for instance)?

Thanks!

That is interesting. Might be able to get some insight on that tomorrow.

Bigflya 05-03-2008 01:52 PM

The May 5th roster is on the wall and I believe that I counted 21 names on it today. Congrats to them. We all near the bottom will be on reserve for the forseeable future but at least were here for now.

Cycle Pilot 05-03-2008 03:34 PM

I sure hope they don't cancel it!!! I just quit my job today!!! :)

Here is my humble opinion. Anything can happen but.............UAL called there guys last minute and said don't show up...........NWA sent all there guys to sit FE reserve in Alaska........don't like it.........well there is the door. Delta.........a few slots were opened in every base..........works much much better sitting reserve for the next year closser to home don't it. Coincidence, ........you choose.

Say what?

Your post is incoherent. Good thing there wasn't a grammar test.

It seems like Imapilot may be fluent in an ancient language known as Gibberish!

The 22D2 only shows active line pilots, the 22D3 includes management pilots, instructors, MLOA, STD, LTD pilots. THey in essense provide two different types of info, and you cannot compare them to each other. At least that's what I remember from 8 years ago.

Imapilot2 05-07-2008 06:45 AM

Thats what happens at the computer with BEER!!! I should never drink and type.:o What I was trying to say was what a difference there was in the three different airlines reactions to the current oil problems. UAL stopped classes abrubtly(last minute, very little warning), NWA sent everyone in their last class to sit FE cargo reserve out of Alaska and Delta opened many ac and bases for its new hires to choose from. So the new hires at Delta didn't get a crap sandwich shoved in their face. IE Treated better. Reflecting a previous post about the way that Delta treats it's new hires. Again, maybe its just coincidence that this all happened this way.;)

The 22D2 report is based on the minimum number of pilots to meet the contractual obligations for each category. The actual staffing for each (I believe is 22D3) is what you can plan each category to have in it. The 22D2 report is always lower since it is the minimum threshold required to meet our contract. The actual staffing will always be higher due to leaves, training, vacations, etc. In essence, the 22D2 report really means nothing to regular line pilots. The 22D3 is what we should be concerned with. I got this from Crew Planning a couple of days ago.
