ATA bankruptcy affects more than employees...

Just read an article in the Army time that the bankruptcy of ATA has affected troops downrange in Kuwait by 2-6 days. FEDEX is going to honor the contract still but, Us Transportation Command is still working hard to get this problem fixed.

I thought the DOD had awarded ATA's government contract to someone else and that was part of the reason they went down in the first place. Anyone know who picked it up?

And I still see vacation packages given away as prizes that feature a trip to Hawaii on ATA. How can that be?

I was in the Lavaman Triathlon out on the island of Hawaii earlier this month. The top prize? (Outside the money for the pro's that is): A round trip for two anywhere ATA flies in the US. This was well post shutdown. I guess they could still award the prize though even if the answer to where they fly is nowhere ...

The award was to the FEDEX team - OMNI has picked up most of what ATA was scheduled to fly till September which was when ATA would have left the team - OMNI was awared 20% more of the team flying starting October 1st - and likely will get more

Thats what I figured because for some reason DOD loves Omni and North American. From my experience overseas they often use NWA or UAL but, only when they need a 747 or 2. Otherwise, they tend to stick with the contract companies like the one's mentioned. I think I've seen a world airplane or two also. I really hope they get all this figured out soon and may we all pray that this industry doesn't continue this way and ruin my dream of flying commercially.

Don't forget Ryan International. I believe they picked up quite a bit of the slack as well. 75's and 76's

Can't comfirm that though although I would bet the other two carriers are helping out with the cause to. I really enjoyed flying ATA although I did get annoyed having to stop 5 times because the 75 weighed to much and we couldn't get max range!

I'm sure all of us formerly of ATA are happy to sacrifice our careers so that others may benefit. (yes, that was sarcasm)

There ain't no "helping out." It's about profit, pure and simple.
