Southwest going International?????
Southwest on the lookout for international code shares
Phoenix Business Journal - by Mike Sunnucks Phoenix Business Journal
Southwest (NYSE: LUV) currently only operates flights in the U.S.. Southwest chief executive Gary Kelly and other airline executives are looking at possible code-sharing agreements with other carriers that offer international service. A code share allows different airlines to mesh and coordinate flight schedules and reservation systems. Dallas- based SWA has major operations in Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Chicago and Baltimore-Washington. Tempe-based US Airways Group Inc. (NYSE: LCC) is part of the Star Alliance which coordinates schedules and ticketing among 23 carriers including Lufthansa, Spanair, Air Canada, United Airlines and Air China. http://phoenix.bizjournals.com/phoen...html?ana=yfcpc |
Hopefully their new international codeshare "partner" will fare better than ATA did.
I'd be a bit skittish to be SWA's new "partner." I'd also be surprised if a company that valued its employee-mgmt relationship would have anything whatsoever to do with US Air...it's another contract negotiation ploy... |
International. Its how to make your airline lose less money than the other domestic airlines.
