Nwa Logo Lights

I've noticed the logo lights on most of the Northwest planes are off. Anyone know why?

OKLATEX 05-26-2008 06:41 PM

One or the other. ****ed off pilots or the company is saving money. The second is my bet.

bertramcheeks22 05-26-2008 08:30 PM

Don't need to spend money replacing them if they aren't burning out.

Superpilot92 05-26-2008 09:04 PM

the reason is most of the planes dont have them installed. I wondered the same until i started working here.

newKnow 05-26-2008 09:43 PM

Logo light. Hummmm.....

Don't you know that loads on the generators equal increased fuel consumption?!?:D;)

Justdoinmyjob 05-27-2008 04:11 AM

Delta doesn't use logo lights either so that's one thing in common.

When Delta bought Western, Western's logo lights were not used/replaced.
Supposedly the "benefit" was outweighed by the maintenance savings (!)

Wow, its a good thing that Delta is NOT buying NWA, so the 10 planes that have the logo lights can still be lit. I am not a believer that not using a light will save enough money to make it worth it. Horizon Air starting making their pilots not use the position lights during the day to save cost. Talking with the Lead MTX Tech....his quote was that there was no saving benefit. Personally, I will spend the .02 cents an hour to illuminate my aircraft as much as I can to help prevent a collision.

I'm not saying that what the Delta "bubbas" said made sense, I'm just saying that's the reason we old "Wally Bird" guys were given...

I find it interesting that many foreign airlines use their logo lights for visibility and proud advertising, yet in the USA it seems that only a handful of large aircraft but many regional jets use them.

It's like the fat kid that just gives up on his/her personal appearence! Next we will see paint jobs and cabin materials falling apart. Oh wait, we already do!

Spaceman Spliff 05-27-2008 05:04 PM

The flying public only cares about ticket price...they will fly a Frankenstein airplane that's half orange and half pink if they get the best fare there.

What financial motivation is there to paint planes every few hours or waste money on logo lights? I'd rather the company spent more money to pay me.

Everyday I go to work...

weirdbiz 05-27-2008 07:01 PM

the company directs us to leave the logo lights off here at eagle, too, although most pilots, frankly, could give a ****. Taxiing around a busy airport at night with no logo lights just to save $5000 a year is just so stupid it blows my mind.

Many of the 767ERs have working logo lights and we use them...some of the 757ERs do also. I think the 767-400s and 777s all have logo lights as well.

Proud? Dude, our management teams & CEO's don't even stay with the company long enough to know what aircraft the airline has or where they fly to.

You think I'm exaggerating? I'm not.

Probably in honor of the proposed merger? kind of like playing taps and lowering the flag:rolleyes:

All of AA's 737s and 777s were delivered with logo lights. They were promptly removed or rendered inoperative. Same with the TWA MD80s. I guess they just don't feel the extra safety/advertising is worth the cost to maintain them.

That's what I thought too...a silent protest.
