I wouldn't pay any attention to "advice" given on websites such as Airline Pilot Central, Airliners.net or FlightInfo.com!

And I wouldn't hire any of the frequent posters, either!

I would do 2 chicks at the same time, 'cause if I ran an airline I would have a million dollars, and if I had a million dollars I could get 2 chicks to do me at the same time.

I would open my doors back in the 70's....I would focus on customer service and my employees, and I would pick a cool name like Southwest. Any questions?

I would only finance infrastrucutre with equity. Operating costs I would only finance with debt.

I assume you mean a legacy carrier. If so, I would structure the airline to offer dependable service to the business community. I would pay fair market salaries to employees in the hope that they would not unionize. I would ask business men who have good connections in D.C. to join the BOD. I would headquarter the company in a state with a diverse economy, a large business community, an airport authority that keeps the airport modernized, with multiple connections, and a satellite airport near by for emergencies, and has a reasonable tax structure.

Since I cannot discriminate against old hags in the U.S., I would hire only modest women with some education. No guys as FA's. NO Homos!

I would structure the company to have a pilot and a maintenance rep. at quarterly meetings for their input. Bonuses would be structured to reflect profitability.

By taking care of your employees, they will take care of the passengers and that in turn will take care of your shareholders. If you shat on your employees they will not be happy and that will reflect in the service and passengers will notice. Your revenue will go down and your shareholders will notice. Also, I would want my members unionized but the difference is I would treat them with respect and pay them accordingly. That way I would have someone to go to when I needed help and they would have an organized way of informing me of issues from the ranks. If there came a time I needed concessions from employees I would lead from the front and suspend all mine and the executive staff's bonuses and follow any pay cuts with equal paycuts for management. It will be OUR job as management to get OUR money back. That is what we get bonuses for!

Alaska Airlines management would be my favorite resource. Whatever they do in regards to treating employees I would do the exact opposite. I think that would be even more valuable than what Herb and Co. do over at SWA. Bill Ayer and Saretsky, in regards to treating people with dignity and respect, could not find their a$$ with both hands.

Last, I would have a LEADER run the airline with bean-counters as support for him/her. You cannot have bean-counters in leadership roles. They are too connected to the bottom-line to see the rest of the equation....as they should be!

My BOD of directors will be informed that shareholders are of paramount importance and WE as management can maximize their returns as such: excellent flying experience with modern initiatives (wi-fi, mood lighting, live tv, on time performance, great mileage programs but most importantly our employees will be the face of the company and they will be trained (and compensated) to deliver the experience.

Ladies and Gents, the name of this game is loyalty. Loyalty from the management to the employee and customer to the company. They both go together. I want customers who will pay $5 or $10 more to fly with us...kind of like what VA is trying to do. We need to give them superior service and a superior product.

Heyas,

I would take a LARGE serverance package and go run a Taco Stand.

In this business, where it's capital intensive and VERY low margin, you are, as Bob Crandal said, at the mercy of your most stupid competitor. And we all know how many of those there are. Even if you get it right, something blows up or a hurricane hits, or some Arab prince gets the sniffles, and you are back to zero (or below).

It's the no-win scenario. The only winning move is not to play.

Pay FO's a half a mil, CA's a cool mil, hire only FA's that are a 7.5 or better....but only on one condition. That participation in airline pilot forums be forever abolished and we all live in piece and harmony. :D Hey, it's a dream!

Are you high!!!! NWA CEO Steenland is getting $26 million!!! Tilton, Arpy and Parker are raking it in! How are they losing? Look at the line of plunderers who ran airlines and see just how much they robbed! It is a winning game for them!

Wings.......I'd bring back those metal novelty wings they used to hand me on Western when my old man was there. Not those piece of ******* plastic ones they defaulted to.
Also.....bring back the smokehouse almonds for Gods sake. Hell I'd pay another $100 a ticket for a nice bag of smokies and some wings.

I would charge a fair ....profit making price for my product..... something the LEADERS of this industry are failing to do.
