Do you really think VA is a better airline or did you switch mainly because you had to move back home? I’m surprised…

I was going to upgrade on A320 end of 08 or beginning of 09,and after spending 4 years on the left seat of A320 I would have an option to move to the mainline fleet as a DEC(on A340,A380,B744 or B777),once I would have been in that position it would have been impossible for me to give that up and move back.It was definitely painful leaving SIA group but it was now or never. But after a few years @VA I think I will be in a very good position

...ooops you and I were typing at the same time

How's the "working atmosphere" at Singapore? Are the pilots and flight attendants happy with their schedules, benefits, etc? Do many people leave? Are most of them Singapore nationals? I’m curious because I fly on them every now and then and I always enjoy it so I wonder if employee happiness translates into my positive experience?

Also, what's a DEC position? Captain?

dude, that guy didn't fly for Singapore, he flew for Silk. It's basically Singapore's regional carrier. I wouldn't listen to that guy. His previous posts lead one to believe he may not be legitimate.

Singapore Airlines group which includes Singapore Airlines,Silk Air and SIA Cargo hire foreign nationals on both Expat terms and Local terms.I spent 3years over there its a great airline and a beautiful, clean and a very safe country, perfect for people that have families and a good place for single guys aswell(if you know what I mean). As far as the schedules are concerned somebody in crew scheduling plans that for you, there is no line bidding system over there, but generally the schedules are pretty good.God forbid if things turn ugly over here,I plan on goin back as I have not really burnt any bridges @ SIA.Money is good as a FO on any fleet your average take home is US$5000-7000 and Capt averages about US$13000-16000,taxes are pretty low 10-12%,and every year you get a bonus which can be anywhere from US$4000-40000 and lets not forget the 13th month salary.

I can understand your frustration as you are seat locked as a FO on 757/767 for pretty much rest of you life and lets not forget the pathetic reserve line you will be holding for a good portion of your disgruntled life. You can only wish that an airline like SIA would hire you but even if you were given the opportunity to interview, you would be shot down because of your personalty,a total lack of knowlege and respect for others.:mad:Your avatar says it all,and can you stop instigating people to get into a flame war with you, which eventually results in the thread being shut down.

Virgin IS NOT reducing flights. We are slowing growth but growing nonetheless. The 10% "reduction" for the fall people are talking about refers to the fact that we are going to doing 10% less expansion then originally planned. We haven't stopped hiring or taking airplanes. As far as I am concerned we are going to sit back and see what shakes out with the more financially stricken carriers.

A320..

Good on you.. I've considered heading over to Singapore. I looked at several of the carriers over there. Thanks for the inputs.

As far as getting flamed for working for VA.. There are many factors that effect where I pilots goes to work.. Not all of us can be offered a prime job with the top carriers. Some guys just don't get this. True, some companies do lower the bar.. but it's not the fault of the guy who just wants to put food on the table. If I'm out of work and have no other options.. I will do what it takes to survive. If better companies were hiring, everyone would work there.
