Bait and Switch

Bait and Switch
I've been hearing a few people - pilots no less! - parroting the company line, (insert company name here), and asserting that givebacks are actually good for a pilots career.
It goes something like this: "...our airline will expand as a result of your pay cuts. The expansion will create new Capt. bids and allow everyone to move up to a bigger jet (more pay, etc.)..."
Does anyone really think that throwing more seats into the domestic capacity will allow a company to be profitable? Do we really think that expansion in the current economic environment (i.e. pilot subsidy for the travelling public) will do anything to help a pilot's long term career prospects? [assuming your not at Southwest]
Maybe I need a reality check, could someone explain to me how this argument isn't a bait and switch? You take a pay cut and fuel continues to rise, do think any capital will be available for expansion?
