CHICAGO, July 29 (Reuters) - AirTran Holdings (AAI.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), parent of low-cost airline AirTran Airways, on Tuesday posted a quarterly net loss as the price of jet fuel pummeled the carrier and its rivals.
Its second-quarter loss amounted to $13.5 million, or 12 cents per share, compared with a year-ago profit of $42.1 million, or 42 cents per share. (Reporting by Kyle Peterson; Editing by Derek Caney)

AirTran swings to 2Q loss: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

Pay cuts??? As if they are not paid less then everyone as it is...

Earlier this month, AirTran said it wanted to cut its overall employee pay by about 10 percent to help offset soaring fuel prices

And then we will lower ticket prices buy 10%!

Fornaro said Tuesday that the airline's mechanics recently voted down the pay cuts related to them. The union representing the airline's pilots has not put it to a vote, he said. About 50 percent of AirTran employees are represented by unions.

Good for the mechanics... hopefully the pilots will learn from them!

Fornaro told The Associated Press that the dissent among some employees regarding pay cuts does not put the company in a jam at this time. He did note, however, that pay cuts are part of the airline's plan to cut costs.

EASTERN???

"Quite frankly, if we are going to ask vendors and partners for concessions, we feel it is important for people at AirTran to (give) some as well," Fornaro said.

The he went on to say..."How do you expect me to get my raise unless you all bleed?'

Just maybe if AAI had not got greedy in the wake of Delta's cuts in BK from 2001-2005 maybe they would not be in the mess they are in??

The FL Dispatcher group of 41 employees represented by TWU also voted NO as well.....I was wondering how the Pilot and F/A group voted as well...

I wish they would tell the whole story....I guess this is what they call damage control.

The word on the line is that it was an all or nothing pay cut. The first group to vote it down basically ended it for everyone else. That being said, I wish the pilots would get to make a symbolic vote. Rest assured it would be NO in the upper 90 percentile. There will be no concessions from this group that we are allowed to vote on. Now what happens behind closed doors with our top secret BOD and NC is a different story. We are well on our way to getting Member Ratification for all changes to our CBA.
