I hear ya! But most if not all the hotels are corp's with a responsibility to stockholders to make as much money as possible. The economy is picking up and buisness travelers pay a lot of money. The hotels were we stay have been cordial and usually give us enough notice to find a new place when they don't renew the contract. In some cases they have extended our agreement without a contract because we haven't yet found new lodging. Just like we should raise fares, the hotels are doing the right thing. We just need to join in! |
I have an idea about this one.
1. Airlines own their own hotels. I know that bankruptcy has left many carriers scrambling for cash, and therefore selling off their assets. But this seems like an important investment. If United uses 40 hotel rooms a night in Sacramento, imagine how many rooms they use in San Francisco, or Denver, or Chicago. It seems like airlines should buy a hotel property (Just the right size) in their hub's for their crews. This has got to pay off. Does anyone have any insight into what carriers like Southwest pay for 20,000 rooms per year? Is it SEVERELY discounted, or only slightly discounted (like 1/2 off)? Just wondering. |
jetBlue is building its own layover/training hotel in MCO.
