Parker said in the last CLT town hall meeting that US Air (East) was going to be liquidated absent the merger. AWA saved your butts. Just look at the SEC documents from the original filing. You guys were out of cash and AWA was the only one buying. If Parker had let US Air shutdown the way Lorenzo shut down Frontier, the seniority award would have been a total loss for the East. As it is you got the first 515 slots and relative seniority after that. Face it, the East pilots are the greedy ones.
1. Cash in the bank was at an all time high
2. Profits were through the roof
3. Labor (especially the pilots) were all happy with the fat contracts they had just signed. Relations between the unions and management are peaceful, respectful and mutually benefitial.
4. Everyone was happy to lose their pensions, benefits and dignity
5. The planes in the fleet were newly painted & clean
6. Brand new Airbus's were on the way
7. All the larger RJ's were assigned to our exciting new regional airline, Mid Atlantic....no more giving away flying to those pesky regionals ever again! USAirways will never again contract to another non wholly owned subsidiary. Mid Atlantic will be seen in the future as the blueprint for how regional aircraft should be flown....with mainline pilots filling the seats of every aircraft. It is a "can't miss" scenario for US.
8. The passengers were happy
9. USAirways ranked at the top of the DOT surveys for passenger satisfaction, baggage handling & on-time performance.
10. Hiring of pilots was limited only to the capacity of the training center. Pilots from other airlines scrambling to give up their seniority numbers to sign on and "Fly with US"! No furloughs from the previous "failures" of our business plan, management and employees!
11. Our fortress hubs of PIT and PHL are so strong that any airline such as Southwest would never dare to launch service for fear of being crushed.
12. Wall Street upgraded USAirways to AA+ from "Deathwatch". Offers of new financing were overwhelming the executive suite. The Alabama pension fund folks were pressing hard to invest even more money into the airline so that they could make hefty profits.
13. Top executives from other "lesser" airlines were scrambling to come to work for USAirways
14. USAirways was kicking the butts of everyone that dared to compete with them in any market (LUV in PHL...Delta on the Shuttle, etc.)
15. USAirways was looking to buy out other carriers in order to strengthen its already formidable competitive position.
16. Our pilots viewed as the envy of the industry with the highest pay, QOL, benefits, routes and career progression in the industry!
17. Our new Caribbean routes are highly lucrative and will give only higher and higher yields as the years go on.
All in all....the proudest and most succesful airline in the history of the industry!
Hang on just a moment.......things are getting a little hazy..........let me roll up my $20 bill and take another "sniff" of this line of stuff on the table..........................there.............a ll better now................where was I?

C'mon CactusMike....I think you are completely off base here. After USAirways declared bankruptcy a SECOND TIME since September 11'th, things were really different. You just are too jaded to see the massive change in corporate culture and success that were being bred at the "New" USAirways before they SAVED America West! For example:
1. Cash in the bank was at an all time high
2. Profits were through the roof
3. Labor (especially the pilots) were all happy with the fat contracts they had just signed
4. Everyone was happy to lose their pensions, benefits and dignity

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???
Somewhere, off in the distance, the sound of the train horn leaving the station is heard. Soon, that train will jump the tracks and the train wreck everyone was predicting will be at hand.

People have been predicting the demise of USAirways since it was formed. I'll give you credit for trying to be original, but it really just comes off as being a little creepy.

I'm not being creepy, just stating my opinion that LCC is a train wreck right now. Labor unrest is at an all time high, and there is no way they are getting the pilots back on board. Tell me what's good right now over there.

usapa grievance..setting it straight...
So wait...how do you all think those grievances got started (ie. grievance 9, 10, 11)? You think USAPA started those out of the goodness of their heart as an attempt to thwart the unjust acts against the West pilots? Please.......
We...Me....Us. (15 west pilots that are getting furloughed) started those grievances. USAPA is by law the bargaining agent...they have to file those grievances or they would be in breach of further DFR wrongs.
So please...continue to call it like it is (east pilots are trash)...it's not them that started these grievances..it was the doing of the west pilots that are to be affected.

Orville - East are on their original (premerger) contract.
West pilots are on the AWA contract.
Separate operations until a joint contract is agreed to by East and West. There is a transition agreement that governs the terms between East and West. No intermix of crews or aircraft until the joint contract is in place. The seniority award that the arbitrator set forth does not take effect until the joint agreement is in place. The company has already accepted the seniority list. Guess how eager the East is to get a joint contract. Oh, by the way, they make less than the West and their workrules are a lot worse. But, hey, lets fight over an arbitrated seniority list.
USAPA is an East union, run entirely by the East, formed to overturn the seniority award. They have zero reps out West and no support out West. We West pilots are basically on our own , which is fine given the alternative. Luckily, we have good lawyers.
Oh, and if you rely on Wikipedia for your facts then you must believe the Enquirer is the apex of journalism. History is written by those who have a vested interest in it.
