Dont Fly United - Its A Scam

Made a flight reservation in December for a Friday evening in March.

Get a call the day my daughter was suppose to leave that the flight was cancelled due to "crew problems". They offer me no alternative flight, until I start screaming.

I am told there are no flights available for 3 days later.

First of all I paid $300 extra for non stop and for a Friday Evening Flight.

After arguing with them for 4 hours, they booked her on a delta flight 2 days later, making a stop over.

We go to the air port for that flight on Sunday, only to find, First that United did not call Delta to confirm the reservation, and Delta wants me to pay again. After I go to pay Delta again, they tell me the flight is totally booked and she can't get on.

I am furious!!! I call United AGAIN. And of course there are no flights available. They want to put her on a flight on Wednesday. This is spring break and they know it.

Now she's booked on a flight Monday (isn't it amazing how they can keep finding new flights), but now she makes 3 stops and a trip that should take 2 hours, is taking her 9 hours.

What kills me is first their Customer Service department has to be located in INDIA. After talking to 14 people, there was NOT one of them who spoke english. I couldn't believe when they admit that they totally over book flights and won't be able to seat everyone anyway.

Then they tell me it was cancelled due to the weather, when the rest of my family was leaving the same time on different airlines. After I confronted them and told them the message on my machine said crew problems, they finally admitted that was the problem.

Do you think they would offer me any type of discount, or compensation. NONE

I was never offererd a thing. Even after I told them that this flight if I had booked it back in December would have cost me $250. Which I am paying $650 for.

What kind of scam is United pulling? They cry poor mouth and ask the government for assistance, when the CEO of the company makes over 2 million dollars a year.

They charge for flights they know they can't provide. Isn't that false advertisting?

How are they allowed to get away with such a scam? They keep your money for months and months for a service they KNOW they can't provide. They over charge you for flights never offering to adjust the price of a ticket. No wonder the CEO's making 2 million a year.

Do I earn interest on my money? Of course not, they do.

They overbook, take all the money, and never provide a thing. When she finally will get on a flight 4 days later, half her spring break gone, United will have moved on to the next poor sucker.

Can you imagine doing this to thousands and thousands of people.

Welcome to the world of outsourced post 9/11 air travel. The airlines have been doing all these things since deregulation but the problem is growing in magnitude. United claims crew problems and yet they have several thousand furloughed pilots and many thousands of PO'D employees. I'm a retired United pilot and usually purchase a ticket on Southwest for domestic travel.

Why complain here. Do it to the airline.

Yet another UAL story

I have another one…
My sister is traveling to South America on Business. Flight out of MKE to ORD then to S.A.. My Sister calls the morning of the flight to find that the MKE to ORD is cancelled. Not a problem (nice if they would of called) but my sister drives to ORD. She checks in and finds that they don’t have a seat for her. What!!! Full price fare purchased through a travel agent. Gets better…..Sister asks what is going on….overbooked the C.A. says. We are giving priority to our frequent flyers first…you can be on stand by. If my sister didn’t tell me this story I wouldn’t believe it.

Now her boss shows up gets the same story….Lucky for them he pulls out his frequent flyer card (diamond bronze with silver inlay) and away they go. What the “H” “E” double tooth picks is going on with United? Full fare booked three weeks out.....no seat????

Fly Southwest!!!!!

Ditto. Just went to Florida and back from New York (Long Island) on SWA and didn't even consider using my UAL trip passes.

I, as a SWA employee will never travel on United OR US-Air again even on a full-fare ticket, forget about travelling Non-Rev, Their employees have such a chitty-look down their nose attitude towards us it is horrible...The folks on the plane are generally always nice, but the people @ the counter and gate need to be replaced by machines, then they might have a better disposition.
Plus cancelling a flight, then 2 hours later uncancelling the flight, what a way to create some seat availability...
I have some travel stories.....

I'm curious- any OAL people out there who have flown on Delta on an ID90 or something similar? How were you treated?

Before moving from the bay area, I used ID90's on DL quite abit after 9/11.
Always got great treatment. Just the standard drill , check the load ,list and stay outa their way until they need to see you.

I just switched my company-paid UAL tickets to Frontier. I know it ain't much to UAL, but it's $500 they won't be getting. After being an AWAC employee and dealing with United's BS for 5+ years it was a fantastic feeling.

I'm still amazed so many people in DEN fly United. F9 is a MUCH better product at a (usually) better price, with a better FF program.
