How to Jumpseat Hawaiian airlines

I was wondering if anyone has jumpseated Hawaiian Airlines before? I heard that in Hawaii for all airlines you have to go to the ticket counter to list. (makes it a pain in the rear when you are trying different carriers) I was wondering does Hawaiian make pilots do this from the mainland? I am trying to jumpseat out of LAX-HNL next month. The counters in LAX always have lines longer then Disney.

I've actually gone through security and listed at the podium in uniform. After getting my ticket, they made me exit security and come back through because my ticket needed secondary screening. I thought that was pretty ridiculous. But otherwise Hawaiian folks are great.

I had a gate agent try to tell me to do that at DFW once. At first I thought he was kidding. When I realized he wasn't, I just went to a different gate and had them re-print the boarding pass without the ssss... (I'll be damned of one of those smurf cops is going to start pawing through my crew bag while I'm there in uniform!)

It's happened twice. Once in Oakland and once in LAX.

.... God.... We are cleared to go and fly the plane but must be screened to ride the plane. Smurfs at their best.

Does Hawaiian still have an open jump seat policy where they will take 135 ops as well? from the main land to Hawaii??

Highly doubtful, but you can always try. See if they'll clear you for cabin jumpseating (No ACASS needed, however they will probably check the airline code to make sure there is a reciprocal agreement).

As for going to the ticket counter, it depends on which gate you're at. For inter island flights in HNL it's not necessary, but going to the mainland, they'll make you run back for screening or they'll call one of the blue monkey boys to wand you and search your stuff right there. Apparently some gates don't have either internet or the program to bypass the secondary screening (don't know which). SFO is the only airport where I have been able to go straight to the gate. FEDEX is by far the best way to HNL.

FWIW: Alpa has an excellent guide on their website (members only) that describes various carriers jumpseat policies in detail. It's under the committees (jumpseat committee) tab.

It's a great resource. Phone numbers, dress codes, how to list, how early to show up, how many jumpseaters they'll carry, etc. There's even a link to FedEx flights/jumpseat links so you can figure out their route structure and how to list.

Just rode HAL today with no reciprocal agreement (however a JS is always welcome on my plane if they want to go to sunny Chefornak, AK this time of year).

Gate agents will look at a list and say you're not on it... then you just ask to get approval "at captains discretion", you get a small form to fill out, intro to CA and FO, put on a smile and be courteous and respectful, CA will sign it off and on your way you go.

NOTE: Gate agent printed me a seat assignment before the CA signed off the approval, seems as though they're very open about jumpers and more of a formality than anything, though it should still be respected.
