Rally with the Midwest pilots!

Join Midwest Pilots Rally to Protest Outsourcing of Jobs You’re invited to join the Midwest pilots at a rally in Milwaukee, Wisc., from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008. Midwest pilots are protesting management’s outsourcing of their jobs in blatant disregard of their contract, and they are asking for your support. Pilots will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 S. Howell Avenue, in Milwaukee (the telephone number there is 414-768-5840). Lunch will be served to the participants before going to the rally. Transportation will be provided to/from the rally. Wear your uniform with hat as well as your ALPA pin and lanyard, if you have them.
Midwest pilots will also conduct informational picketing that morning, and encourage other ALPA pilots to join them. Pilots will meet at Milwaukee General Mitchell Airport (MKE) Sijan Room no later than 5:00 a.m. for a pre-picket briefing, then picket from 5:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m.
If you need more information about transportation between MKE and the Oak Creek Community Center, please contact Midwest’s SPC chairman, Capt. Jon Beard, at 414-704-2916. We’ll see you there!

If they wanta support the MidEx crews, then don't bid the equipment or take a VAC with some sick time....

Most of us are already on the 170 and displacements happen without anything you can do. If I can go and stand by my fellow pilot even though both of our managements are sticking to their respective pilot group I am all for it!

I want to be there guys/gals! But I will be sitting reserve! I support you. In fact I think in December all US pilots should boycott work for 3 days before Christmas because of what Midwest is doing. Other airlines are going to be thinking the same thing since they see that "it can be done". Airlines need to remember how serious pilots are of their jobs and how strong we are in numbers! God bless you Midex pilots. We support you.

The company would just displace people.

Good luck with the rally guys!

That's assuming there's paid time off still in the bank. This isn't the first stress issue :D

I'm not one of the guys going there but it appears to have gone pretty junior. I don't know if they were bidding for it or displaced. Either way for something to be effective it'd have to be more than people not bidding for a base. It'd have to be company wide. Worked for Northwest recently.

Republic was my first choice in an employer! GLAD I DIDN'T DO IT! I wouldnt be able to commute. Good luck Midex guys.

If i could go I would be there. I feel really bad for all those who are being forced into working those trips.

I fly for Republic, I jump on Midwest 60% of the time, since the announcement I have had 0 issues with the great Midwest crews, I will continue to support yall as best I can, good luck in your grievance as well as ours!

Rally was a good event, Union leaders for ALPA and Teamsters both showed up. Even had three Delta pilots come and show there support as well as a Continental and about 12 other pilots from other companies. Didn't see any Republic guys there. Appreciate your voice on the this venue, but action is whats needed. This battle is bigger then just Midwest, it's about who will be flying the next 100-130 seat aircraft and for what pay and benefits. This is an industry battle and all pilots should be paying close attention because it could be your job next. This will be how the Feeders take over the Majors.

I made it up there as well, although I think I was the only one from my company. A shame really, considering our MEC leadership sent out an e-mail asking for us to attend. . .and to be the only one up there. . .aah gee - thanks guys.

Nevertheless, met a lot of great people who have a lot of determination in fighting this to the end. Best of luck.

If they can't cover the flying, then perhaps they should recall some furloughees. Nah, that would make too much sense.

utedrummer 10-03-2008 08:40 AM

if they cant cover the flying perhaps they should give it back to midwest pilots. I dont want to be recalled to go there (im shootin for HNL...oh wait, i forgot, im not going back. whoops)

Just wanted to thank all the pilots who came and supported us, please pay attention, this is not just Midwest pilots fight.

Here is the union communication regarding the rally.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pilots Rally and Picket to Protest Outsourcing of Midwest Jobs
More than 100 Midwest pilots and pilots from a number of ALPA-represented groups picketed at MKE on Wednesday to enhance public awareness of management’s outsourcing of Midwest jobs. Wednesday, October 1 marked the start of scheduled service for the EMB-170s.

Later that day, pilots from ASA, ASTAR, Atlas, Compass, Continental, Delta, ExpressJet, PSA, and United, among others, joined Midwest pilots, flight attendants, and their families at a rally in front of Midwest Airlines corporate headquarters. ALPA President John Prater, ALPA First Vice President Paul Rice, and ALPA SPSC Chairman Mike Donatelli addressed the crowd of 200 with the message that the 53,000 ALPA pilots are standing behind Midwest pilots in our fight to protect our jobs. AFA Midwest Airlines Chapter President Toni Higgins, Teamsters Airline Division Director David Bourne, and Detroit Teamsters Local 299 President Kevin Moore also spoke to rally attendees, expressing their support for Midwest pilots and flight attendants.

Thanks to all the offline pilots that showed up at the rally.I saw 1 Republic guy there.I heard a lot of talk from the teamster reps about solidarity and brotherhood, on the very same day the Midwest Pilots are getting replaced by Republic guys.

I know it's hard for the younger pilots to really understand what it will take to win this fight.I here the talk, but don't see the walk.....what happens if Midwest calls a strike ??? Republic guys gonna support us from the picket line, or from the cockpit of their E-170's...????? That's my question.

Hetman 10-04-2008 06:35 AM

Picket line.

willflyforcash 10-04-2008 09:15 AM

I've gotta say that I am impressed that the RAH guys are voicing their support for the Midwest guys on this forum. That shows a good sense of moral value and respect for the industry.

I only wish I had seen the same from the TSA guys, when AMR gave them flying that openly violated Eagle's CBA with AMR.

Pilots don't control who gets what routes and what aircraft, however, they do have a major impact on how management obeys and respects CBAs. It is imperative that we collectively stand up and show all management that contracts must NOT be blatantly violated.
