Pan Am

whats the scoop?

ERJ135 03-28-2006 04:40 AM

Well, Pan Am is called Boston Maine Airways now. In Oct 04' they laid off their ALPA represented flight crews and shutdown for several months in an attempt to restructure as a nonunion airline. They started back up last June to fly from PSM to BDL to Newburg NY to Columbus OH to ST Petes FL. That lasted a few months then they sut down again and only recently started flying out of their SFB hub to ATL and the caribbean. They still fly their J31s PSM to BED to Trenton NJ. There was some sketchy things going on there. For example they took their J31 flight crews and pushed them up to 727's. Which I heard is a big jump for two people that have never flown anything bigger than a Jetstream. Some maintenance issues with the planes. The 727's always broke. If your thinking of going there I wouldn't reccommend it. I worked ramp and got laid off when the shut the Pan AM portion down in 04' I was trying to work my up to the Jetstreams but I was too concerned over blacklists with the union pilots. It was pretty bad at the end with Manuels going missing from the airplanes. They had to raise the air stairs and lock them so people were not allowed on the plane. It was changable, one day everything was great they were going to keep their crews and next mechanics are getting laid off or quitting and it was a real mess. So if you go there good luck..

Why would you even consider leaving FedEx for a crap operation such as Pan Am?

You'd better  !!! The opportunity you got with FedEx only comes once in a lifetime. Remember, there are 11,000+ qualified applicants and GOD only knows how many who are building time that would glady take your place. I would stay put.

Yeah.... definitly stay with Fed EX.. The owner is too unpredictable for anything resembling stablity in the company. One night when the crews came back, he was there waiting with their pink slips and told them not to bother to come back. That got changed quickly as ALPA went to court and forced him into giving them the legal amount time your supposed to give someone before they are terminated. I felt really bad those guys. Most just took retirement when they went under. Most of those guys were former Eastern Air pilots and some Carnival Air pilots. They had been flying for so long and it was just such a horrible way to end your career. They last day of operation, it was the captains last flight as an airline pilot, and the flight attendents threaten not to show up and there was all kinds of controversey. They ended up coming and he when they got to SFB they find their own way home from there. Pretty sad:(

Hey - Jack. I hear Braniff 4 (or is it 5) is about to start operating. Is Frank Lorenzo still alive? Fire up your resume! Leave FEDEX for PMA? Thats like an FBI Agent quitting his career to take a job as night watchman at a Swap Meet! Is everyone nuts in this place????

I am the only one who can hear Jack's sarcasm? I guess so.
